Sorry if there is a special place for this kind of question. I am trying to think of a title of a picture book that I must have bought 20 years ago.
It was a simple story of a poor family. Mother, father, a boy. White if I recall correctly. I recall a scene where the boy wants a dog or a cat but parents say someday. The theme is about things they can't do or have because they don't have the money. A recall a hug of mom and day (and boy?) and they are crying.
Illustrations I think were stark - b&w, or sepia, muted colors at least.
