Tara ♪ | 149 comments Which composer (referring to pre-1850) do you think has the most interesting life story/background? I know that Mozart is interesting, but it is slightly less so to me because my elementary school music teacher was quite obsessed and enjoyed beating the stories into our heads week after week after week.

He's not a composer, but Lorenzo da Ponte!! His life was so unfortunate and he mocks himself - it's hilarious :D

I think that Chopin has an interesting life - he moved to France from like Sweden and changed the spelling of his name from Shopan to Chopin. (Those French people with their strange pronunciations...)

Tara ♪ | 149 comments Very true. The whole child prodigy stories that come with Mozart and the one surrounding his death still intrigue me, though. :)

Yes!

My conductor at camp loved to tell us Mozart stories while we weren't playing. My favorite was about how he had never played violin, but after observing while his father had his music friends over (like Haydn and those guys - they'd just show up) to play quartets, he actually learned how to play! And so one day he said 'can I play with you?' And his father was like 'oh, you can't play violin!' And he picked it up and played anyway!

Tara ♪ | 149 comments Well, maybe four years old or something closer to that. My music teacher always exaggerated, so I should have accounted for that. :)
