GoodReads on Kindle Paperwhite - Pros & Cons?

What appeals to me, personally: - Share your favorite passages on Goodreads from inside the book
- Rate books
- Add your Amazon book purchases to your Goodreads shelves, all without putting down your Kindle Paperwhite!
What concerns me is the possibility of fraud due to too many linked accounts and/or too much shared info.
My Paperwhite (PW) is not first gen, but my comments would be true either way. GR on PW has absolutely no appeal.
1. I have a PW because I didn't want a pad/tablet with other features, apps, etc.
2. I don't like the GR interface at all.
3. If desperate for a GR fix, I will use my iPhone GR app. While not ideal, it is the next best thing to the web GR.
4. Not concerned about fraud, but in this case there is the added fact that Amazon owns GR...so they already know everything about me anyway.
Daisy-Chaining accounts is a horrible idea - add to the fact that GR has a ton of bugs...I wouldn't trust GR to be attached to my credit card like that.

But GR will be linked through to Amazon. And I know that GR is set up to receive money - I used to buy books and ebooks here.

Oh...
I honestly really doubt that Amazon would be that blase about their CC security. It's better to be safe than sorry, of course, but I don't think that just because a subsidiary company uses the same sign-in that they'd have access to payment info. I just had to change my CC information after I lost my card and was issued a new one, and I had to do it on both Amazon and Audible - even though they are linked and I use the same sign-in for both.
Just my 2 cents.
Of course, that doesn't mean that I think linking accounts is necessarily a good idea. There ARE always situations where security isn't quite as good as thought, and there are bugs, and... whoknowswhats. I personally wouldn't link my accounts because I want to keep GR and Amazon completely separate. I don't want my purchases on Amazon automatically uploading here, or my statuses, or notes, or anything. I want control, not some app.
2 more centses. :P

I'm pretty much in the same boat as Brad, as far as Amazon already knowing everything about me. They are my primary bookseller.
Just to be clear, while I said I wasn't afraid of fraud, I do take precautions. Among other things, I have separate log-ins for each site and I never link any account to Facebook. To me, they have not shown any regard for my privacy or protection (but that is another story entirely).
I think that's smart, to be cautious. But, I'm just saying that I don't think it's a given that companies using linked accounts will have the same access to CC info, etc. At my old job, we had many different affiliate companies which we took bookings for, and even WE didn't have access to customer CC info due to PCI Compliance. We were the middle-man, the company taking the payment information, but it was encrypted to the hilt to ensure as much security as possible.

I wasn't thinking that would share CC's - more along the line of integrating system types and/or putting them side by side. A lot of hackers get into a "meh" part of a system and get to the financials (or other info) they want that way.
But everyone should do what makes them comfortable.
Well, I mean, if a hacker is determined, they'll get your info regardless. I will say that, from my own experience, forming a company-to-company relationship often results in more and better security of data. With my old job, that was almost always a discussion/deal-breaker regarding the partnership, and our internal data security policies only got more and more stringent as a result.
Of course, it's best to take precautions, but I think that the risk that CC info would be accessible to GR is pretty slim.
Becky wrote: "Well, I mean, if a hacker is determined, they'll get your info regardless. "This may be true but there's no need to make it easy for them.
It's probably easier to steal credit card info when you purchase in a store than the majority of your online sites. We had a case down here a few years ago where clerks at a gas station were tapping cards used to buy gas. Though I think they're making those more secure too..
For sure, Chris. We give our CC info to 10 people a day. Waiters/waitresses, vendors, etc. It's probably far less safe with them than with Amazon/GR, in my opinion.
If this was available for Nook I think I would definitely use it. A lot of times I find myself highlighting passages that I would like to share, but by the time I get to a computer I forget to post them. It would be nice to do it right then and there while reading. Same goes for rating and adding book purchases. I buy ebooks from Amazon, but those don't show under my Nook library. If I want to know all my purchases I have to manually input them somewhere, which sucks because I forget to do it.
Instead of CC info you can give an American Express or Visa GC info. There's no ID theft protection if someone hacks, but if you set a small amount it's no big loss.

If I remember correctly, we have at least one member here who is using it, and one member who is wholly opposed to the idea.
I would love and appreciate for those members, and anyone else who cares to weigh in, to please discuss any and all pros, cons, wants, concerns and/or fears about this application here.
