★ Jess | 3071 comments So my family have a massive film collection. In between studying and reading and writing, I want to watch at least 50 films from this collection before the year is over. Re-watches do not count. Films will range from recently released to all time classics, so it will be awesome :)

message 2: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments Lots of options, I'll probably decide just before I watch it, depending on my mood. Right now I'm leaning towards Steve McQueen's Shame

message 3: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments 1. Shame (2011). Fassbender is an incredible actor and McQueen stunning behind the camera.

message 4: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) McQueen really loves Fassbender, he is in every one of his movies

Looooooove that movie Jess!! One of my all time faves, and ever since I first saw it I vowed I would go to Bruges one day! It looked so beautiful and inviting....It's still on the cards :D
When I do I will post a picture of me on that footbridge!

message 18: by ★ Jess (last edited Jul 16, 2014 05:44AM) (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments Hahaha Julie it looked delightful! "It's a fairytale town, isn't it? How's a fairytale town not somebody's f***ing thing?"

11. Iron Man (2008). Watching these to see what all the Marvel hype is about.

message 19: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments 12. Se7en (1995). Incredible, loved it so much.

message 20: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments 13. Looper (2012). Yes!!! This rocks so hard
14. Capote (2005). It was ok, Phillip Seymour Hoffman really is the best though

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) ★ Jess wrote: "9. In Bruges (2008)"

YOU'RE AN INANIMATE F**CKING OBJECT!! One of my favourite films ever. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is also fantastic.

★ Jess | 3071 comments 15. Drive (2011). Killer soundtrack + good cast
16. One Hour Photo (2002). Robbin Williams :'(
17. The way way back (2013). I love Sam Rockwell
18. Moon (2009). Sam Rockwell x2. Deserved an Oscar nom for this
19. City of God (2002). Beautifully made, though confronting
20. Signs (2002). Wasn't too bad.
21. Captain America (2011). Meh. Started well but disappointing final act
22. Boogie Nights (1997). Brilliant ensemble cast, terrific direction
23. The Kings of Summer (2013). Lovely indie coming of age film

Hahahah love it! "How can f**cking swans not f**cking be somebody's f**cking thing eh? How can that be!?!"

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Moon is another of my favourites, only watched it this year - so good! I wasn't sold on him in general from stuff I'd seen him in but god he proves himself in that.

message 25: by ★ Jess (last edited Sep 02, 2014 08:03AM) (new)

28. There Will Be Blood (2007). Daniel Day Lewis is awesome, that final scene is incredible.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Greg Kinnear is great in Little Miss Sunshine.

message 28: by Ariel (new)

Ariel Brown | 44 comments I watched an animated movie last night that I hadn't watched for years. It is simply titled 9 (2009)... a brilliant movie, as I am sure those who have watched it will agree.

message 29: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments 29. The Departed (2006).
30. Inside Llywen Davis (2013).

message 30: by May (new)

May | 10 comments What a great idea!Enjoying your conquests. Keep up the good work. Will look forward to your next update

message 31: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments 31.Kill Bill Vol. 1 (2003). Technically a rewatch, I was too young to appreciate this the first time. Awesome.
32.Kill Bill Vol. 2 (2004).

message 32: by May (new)

May | 10 comments Jess, you've slowed down
You ok ?

message 33: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments Uni makes this hard, though I haven't updated this in a while. Hopefully I haven't forgotten anything!

33.Garden State (2004).
34.Shaun of the Dead (2004). "...Go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over." Not the masterpiece people make it out to be, but very entertaining.
35.Zodiac (2007). Watching the David Fincher movies I haven't yet seen. Slow and flawed, but a solid piece of filmaking. 'Hurdy Gurdy Man' worked perfectly in the soundtrack.
36.The Game (1997).Probably my least favourite Fincher. Fantastic start but went down hill.
37.A History of Violence(2005). A rare occasion where I watched a film having no idea what to expect.

message 34: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments 38.The Spectacular Now(2013).

message 35: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments 39.Killing Them Softly(2012). An incredibly stylish film

message 37: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments 42.Batman Begins(2005). First time I've watched it in full. Would love to see more of Cillian Murphy.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Dunno if you've seen 28 Days Later, but Cillian is in that too. Such a unique looking bloke. Inception, too.

message 39: by Sapphire (new)

Sapphire Purcell Nice work, Jess. As a total film nerd, myself, I fully endorse this challenge and look forward to your thoughts on whatever you watch next.

message 40: by K (new)

K | 1143 comments I loved the Batman film with Heath Ledger as the Joker. What an incredible Aussie actor. I still miss his brilliance.

message 41: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments 43.Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind(2004). Gorgeous. I want to rewatch this again and again and again.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Really underrated film that one. Like Truman Show, shows Jim Carrey can pull off dramatic roles really well.

★ Jess | 3071 comments 44.Memento(2000). Nolan is so overrated.

message 44: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments 45.The Royal Tenenbaums(2001). It had its moments, but Im beginning to think Wes Anderson is hit or miss.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) ★ Jess wrote: "45.The Royal Tenenbaums(2001). It had its moments, but Im beginning to think Wes Anderson is hit or miss."

I haven't seen it in ages, but I liked it when I watched it. Life Aquatic is a favourite of his.

★ Jess wrote: "44.Memento(2000). Nolan is so overrated."

Eh, Inception was really good I thought. Same with the Dark Knight Trilogy - I hear Memento is fairly polarising though.

message 46: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments Don't get me wrong, I like Nolan. I think he does some great stuff. Inception is great and so is Dark Knight. It's just that everyone talks about him like he's the greatest director working today and everything he makes is a masterpiece. Look at the IMDB top 250 list. He has 3 movies in the top 15. I mean pls, he does some good things, but he isn't the filmmaking genius people would lead you to believe.

message 47: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments Haven't yet seen Life Aquatic, but I think there's a huge gap between Tenenbaums/Darjeeling Ltd and Moonrise Kingdom/Grand Budapest Hotel for example.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) I haven't seen either of the latter, keep meaning to.

message 49: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments 46.The Cabin in the Woods(2012).

message 50: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments 47.Before Sunrise(1995). In love with Ethan Hawke
