Let's say that you stumble across an upcoming Monthly or Weekly Read that you would like to participate in. The first and most important step is to get your hands on a copy of the book in question and begin reading. Whenever possible, avoid stealing books from the library, your friend, or your little sister. None of those scenarios will end well. Trust me, we've all tried them.
As you are reading, you can stop by the discussion thread to participate in the ongoing conversation. You don't have to finish the book to participate in the discussion - you can join in at any time. At the beginning of each post, members are asked to type their current page number, to prevent others from accidentally stumbling across a spoiler. This allows members to read at their own pace and skip over posts that may contain potential spoilers.
In your post, you can rant and rave about a particular character that you absolutely cannot stand, swoon over a teenage heartthrob, comment on the author's writing style, ask a question about the text that has been nagging at you, or answer a question posed by another member. The goal is simply to talk about the book with others. Think of discussions as a book club that meets online - anything that might be brought up during a book club meeting can be posted in our discussion threads.
The goal of our discussion threads is to create lasting friendships between members and foster a love of reading among the participants. Members who have participated in the past highly enjoy the discussions and strongly encourage others to do so as well.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have some books to, erm, borrow.
