They have the same ISBN (more or less - one is missing a number), so I take them for being the same edition. Will merge them in a mo...

The ISBN is not the same, the system would have not allowed it. There can be only one edition with a specific ISBN. The problem is that one edition has a number less. Removed.978009194808

A different publishing date is good enough. But I suspect it is a duplicate edition, converting to another one.
As for the published date, it can happen that a book is published in one country before another. With this one, the earliest date does appear to be 27 March 2014 in the UK (it is April in the US), so I will use that.

The book Every Time I Love You by Heather Graham that I tried to enter has the same title/author as the hardcover:https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
But the cover is different, listing two other possible covers/editions, one of which matches the book in my hand:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9...
However, those books have a later publication date and a different number of pages.
The hardcover has 503 large print pages, and was published 6/1/2002.
The mass market paperback has 382 pages and was published 5/4/1992.
The book in my hand does not say "mass market paperback" anywhere, and lists June, 1988, as the date of publication.
I double checked the ISBN #0440200873 on the mass market paperback, and it does match the one on the book in my hand.
The book in my hand has 10 unnumbered pages at the end, promoting Chasing a Dream by Joanne Redd, which, if numbered, would equal the same number of pages as the mass market book.
The note also said my data could be posted without the ISBN number, but since I know it, that seems foolish and does not really solve the problem: Two publication dates, yet different editions...

But the Goodreads database does not allow multiple book records to share an ISBN. The workaround is to create what we call an alternate cover edition (ACE). ACEs have no ISBN entered in the ISBN field, but we make a note in the edition description and/or a librarian note (visible on the edit screen) that the record in question is an ACE of a certain ISBN.
That aside, I did notice that the mass market paperback edition with ISBN 0440200873 has a publication date of 1988 on both Amazon and WorldCat (and both sites also have the same cover image), so I edited that record to have a pub date of 1988.
The book that you have in hand with ISBN 0440200873, what is its format? Hardcover or paperback?

the two edition below have the same ISBN13 and publisher (and pages, and edition type,...) but have different covers and their publication dates are 42 days apart:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
Paperback, 352 pages
Published February 13th 2014 by Ebury Press
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
Paperback, 352 pages
Expected publication: March 27th 2014 by Ebury Press
Maybe more different details are needed to differentiate the two...
