Book Vipers Series Challenge
Wow, Charlotte, that's impressive! I've read one of my series, Jane Gardam's Old Filth trilogy - and even then I'm cheating a bit because I read the first one before the challenge began! Still, I'm off the mark now. I think I'll save Jasper Fforde for some holiday reading.
Jasper Fforde is a favourite of mine. Have either of you read any of his before?
I envy you reading Fforde for the first time. I hope you enjoy it!
I read The Eyre Affair, and possibly the second one, but it was over ten years ago and I have a shocking memory so planning to start again at the beginning. From what I remember they were a lot of fun. I love all those literary in-jokes.
I really loved the first 2 Jasper Fforde Thursday Next books but struggled with the third (it got better from the half way point so glad I carried on)
Finished the 7th of 8 Stuart MacBride crime series (though still to read no.6!). Also read the 4th Hannibal book, another Pratchett book (a hat full of sky) and starting the 2nd of 3 MaddAdam books by margaret atwood..the year of the flood :) now at my halfway point. :)
Pamela - is the 3rd the one with Miss Havisham? if so, I had the same problem with it, but the series really picked up again after that!
Well done on hitting your half way mark, Charlotte
Just completed my series challenge that was to read the three books in the Hunger Games series. I gave 5 stars to all the three books. It's an excellent story. I'm glad I finally read it since my plan was to do it last summer, but I never even started it!
I would like to watch the 2 first movies now.
Well done Sandra! I hope you enjoy the films too
I originally challenged myself to read Asimov's Foundation Series and to finally get a hold of the companions to The Giver. It seemed like enough of a challenge but considering how fast I'm working through Foundation, I think I'm going to add Marianne Curley's Guardians of Time trilogy. How's everyone else coming along?
Are you enjoying them Caitlin?
I've read the Hunger Games and Divergent trilogies, 2 of the 3 Jasper Fforde Dragonslayer series, 2 of Louise Rennison's Withering Tights series , 2 of 3 Deborah Harkness All Souls Trilogy (the third is published in July) and I've read 5 of the Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles, 5 Inspector Rebus and 4 of the Phillipa Gregory Cousin's War series.
So, 26 out of the 48 I aim to read for this challenge.

Welcome to the group Andrea. You're in the right place.
It is a personal challenge to get people reading a series, either one or as many as you want to. I am doing four of five separate series.

Wow, Charlotte! You are are definitely not afraid of a challenge. Congrats on making it so far :) I just finished the first of the Foundation series and it was wonderful. I can't wait to continue.
Caitlin, I think I over-challenged myself with this one!! I've been taking some time out to read other books for a break from it

Oops!
Oops!
48 including two long series was a lot! There are only so many Rebus / Vampire books you can read in a row...
I'm about half way through though so still time to complete it before the end of the year

I got carried away and added everything I wanted to read or had on my shelf.
I'd say I'll learn but I never do with books and reading
I'd say I'll learn but I never do with books and reading
problem with that is there's only one book on there I'm not fussed about!! I'm going to stick with it as it is. it'll be a challenge but I guess that's the idea!!!
I like big gaps between series books, it's like getting to know the characters all over again. 35 years and I have yet to start the first harry potter book. hehe
Just got the GoT series. I also have it on audio, but I get more out of it by reading- guess I'm more of a visual learner. Starting today.
What amazing things you both have to look forward to
I have seen a few of the first series on a plane to China, but I refuse to pay for Sky so haven't seen any more.
I've seen a few episodes at my mom's house. I won't let my husband get cable or he would never do anything other than watch sports.
I've seen the TV series, but read the books first. I love both. The best TV adaptation of a book series I've come across
Have to say, as much as I enjoyed GOT, there is no way I would reread them all before the next book comes out! I did that for Harry Potter, but those books were so easy to read, like putting on old slippers. I found the GOT books just got far too expansive by books 4&5, and it becomes laborious. Still will continue the series, but couldn't reread it!
I've read three more since my last update: 2 more Anne Rice and another Phillipa Gregory
How is Anne Rice? I read Interview with a Vampire, when I was younger and really enjoyed, but didn't continue the series because it was the only book translated and I didn't read books in English at that time. I want to continue now though.I set myself a goal of 6 books, since I entered the challenge late. I've read 1 book so far and it's The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin, sencond book in Mara Dyer series.
If you liked interview with a vampire then you will like the rest of the series, they are really good.
I'm enjoying the Rice novels. I think the later ones are my favourites of the series so far.
I've at least three left to read though

I'm now down to 17 and a half books from the original 48 I planned to read. Making steady progress
With a hectic summer of moving country and briefly living at my parents surrounded by boxes whilst house hunting, I have really slowed down. Found myself reading a variety of books that were part of a series so cheekily added them onto the bookshelf. Now have read 14 books as I had challenged myself to, but they are a selection out of the 26 on the shelf! To be fair though, I had struggled to get hold of many of them in the Vienna libraries and didn't want to have to fork out for them all. My most recent sneaky addition is The Silkworm, the follow up to The Cuckoo's Calling. Just three chapters in but just as readable as the first.
I've got 11 3/4 of my original 48 left to read
Books mentioned in this topic

Making a current total of 21 out of 48 books. I'm part way through the next Philippa Gregory and will be reading the 5th Anne Rice as I have that on loan from the library. Then I may take a break from reading solely challenge books and alternate with something different.
