Started At Lady Molly's the fourth book in Powell's A Dance to the Music of Time. Powell manages to keep the quality of the writing up. Becoming very fond of Jenkins.

You had only read 28, and now you are nearly done? That makes it even more impressive!
I have started Life of Pi. I've been putting it off for 3 years and I fear expectations may have been risen subconsciously. We shall see!
I need to put down "The Blind Assassin" because I'm not getting invested or interested and I'm going to pick up "Kieron Smith, Boy".

This is your whole group of partners!
I just started listening to The Corrections read by George Guidall. I'm enjoying it so far. I'm not finding the characters as abhorrent as some of the reviewers here on Goodreads. In fact, I quite sympathize with the father. I'm probably less than a quarter of the way in, though.
Just started Ivanhoe. I am already completely confused but I was really tired when I started. Maybe I will pick it up again when I have more energy...
Okay, I'm having problems finding my next book after a really great run. I just began "Kieron Smith, Boy" and am now retiring it Fter 50 pages. I wasn't interested in the irksome voice of the protagonist. So that's 2 for 2 since "The Blind Assassin" didn't work all that well. Now, do I start something new or go back to "Blind Assassin"? I have a whole bunch of books at home so I'm sure I'll find something worth my while.

At least I found something I can get into.
Robin wrote: "Now, do I start something new or go back to "Blind Assassin"?..."I'm currently listening to an audio version of The Blind Assassin. It took me a while to really get into it, but I'm invested in the characters stories now. I want to find out how it all fits together and turns out. So there may be hope that you may get into it more as you go along. How far have you gotten?

About 70 pages but I have a bad relationship with Atwood. I haven't enjoyed anything of hers beyond "Cat's Eye" and her book of shorts.
I started "The Time Machine" by Wells yesterday. This is my first time to read it, and so far (Chapter 1) I love it.

I just finished Oryx and Crake, which makes me feel a tiny bit better about the fact that she has 6 books on the list. That isn't one of them though, unfortunately!
Maggie wrote: "I just started Kafka On the Shore."I absolutely adore this book. The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle is one of my favorite books.
I started Watchmen last night. I probably won't get through it too fast, though, because I'm trying to finish up a couple non-list books in the next week or so.
Started Interview With the Vampire. Despite its popularity, I've completely avoided Anne Rice before.
Genia wrote: "Started Interview With the Vampire. Despite its popularity, I've completely avoided Anne Rice before."I much preferred her witch series to the vampire books but both are very sensual.
Started Castle Richmond by Trollope, slow going but mainly because Trollope spends the first 60 pages introducing the surroundings and the main characters.

What's up with all these multiple listings????
Ah. Yeah, I have no idea how the list was decided, although I think some of hers have moved on and off.
The list comes from a book published every two years. I think the content is decided on by various English professors, authors, etc. Unfortunately we have no control over what they put on it.
I just started L'Immoraliste by André Gide. I didn't even know it was on the list when I first started it. I'll have to read it for school in the fall, so I figured I'd read it in French now when I have lots of time, and read a translation when it's assigned. When reading the preface I wasn't sure I'd be able to handle it, but the story is much easier to read.
Just about to start The Death of Ivan Ilych. I'm reading it in Great Short Works of Leo Tolstoy which also includes The Kreutzer Sonata. Two 1001 Books with one stone.
One big Russian stone with a big Russian beard! :)I haven't read Perfume yet - saw the movie and think I may be one of the few people who didn't hate it. Looking forward to seeing what you think of the book.
Reading The Plague by Camus. Tip: If you are grossed out/hate rats, you might want to skip this one!
El, I loved the movie. But I haven't read the book. I have a soft spot for Tom Tykwer movies, though.

Ah, that makes it more difficult. I have only read The Handmaid's Tale before this one, which I loved. This one feels like a completely different author!
Started reading In Cold Blood by Truman Capote while on the train this morning. It's one of the books that you know you should have read ages ago (much like Catcher in the Rye and One Flew over the Cuckoos nest)
Mikela wrote: "I much preferred her witch series to the vampire books but both ..."The purple prose is beginning to get to me. I feel it's going to be a slog.

But it seems I've finally getting into it so I may be able to finish it!
CindyRead perfume in 2004, as it was on the BBC top 100, I voted for the book which came first. Loved perfume and in particular the emphasis on the sense of smell, and I lent my copy to about 6 people.
Started book 6 Of A Dance to the Music of Time: The Kindly Ones, number 7 and 8 are on the bookshelf.
Just started Daughter of Fortune by Isabel Allende, & al already on page 229 :) it's a really great read, & I am definitely going to be looking forward to reading more of her books. On the OTHER hand, I'm really having a rough time hacking through The Name of the Rose. The story itself is good, but I keep getting bogged down in the details!

I read Daughter of Fortune many years ago and loved it. To me it is unlike others of hers I have read since.
I did not care for The Name of the Rose and finally abandoned it after a couple of hundred pages.

I counted the books on the list that I'd already read, which was 49 I think?
2. I am loo..." I think you can count the rest of the group as your partners!
