I just started "Everything is Illuminated" by Jonathan Safran FoerEverything Is Illuminated: A Novel
Sawyer wrote: "Just started Gulliver's Travels - Jonathan Swift."Oh, I read it when I was 9, i remember that it was interesting.
I started Notes from the Underground. It is a GREAT book! I am ready to give it 5 stars just for the first 4 pages!
I'm reading Kristin Lavransdatter 1: The Wreath. This will be a good challenge, since I have to read three books before I can check this one off the list!
I have both The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and The Time Machine underway on the Kindle, but I'm totally engrossed in Hoood, by Stephen Lawhead, right now. Not on the list, but an amazing read. Still, I want to get through more of the list this year.
Everything that Rises must Converge (a bit backwards, I am)
"July's People" - GordimerNot finished with "Sons and Lovers" yet, but wanted to get in on the group read -- for once!
I just started L.A. Candy by Lauren Conrad. I didn't realize that this book was for young adults, but I needed some light reading and so far it's a pretty quick read, however, if you've seen the show like I have you may find yourself trying to see which characters are playing who in the book.
I started reading Blackwood Farm by Anne rice. it's not my choice for an anne rice novel but since it's a gift for me last christmas, by a friend who mostly do the receiving. i'm up for the challenge to finish this book and tell him,. a very sincere thank you. =) to make up for my awkward thanks.,
Johnny wrote: "Just started reading Kafka's The Trial."Trial was a very good book, hard, but really worth reading.
I am reading "Siddhartha".No comments yet.
Lianna wrote: "Middlesex. I blew through the first chapter. Chapters two and three are a little more sluggish... "I have to admit I found Middlesex harder and harder to read as it went along.
Just started 'The Swarm' by Frank Schatzing (in anticipation of the February discussion). Yet another book I might have foregone reading if not for this list/group, but am enjoying it so far.
"The Human Factor" - Graham GreeneOops, I just realized this one isn't on either of the lists; but it's a good one!
"Burgur's Daughter" - Nadine Gordimer. I THOUGHT it was easier to understand than July's People, but now I'm not sure. The theme of the burden of family, and of circumstances in general is interesting, but again she is very wordy and I feel my understanding is barely over 1/2 most times. But sometimes there are really rich passages worth reading...very poignant quips.
I thought I was going to read The Help next, but I decided to read Catching Fire first. The Help & Lolita will be next though.
Knarik wrote: "Oh, I love Robinson Crusoe, it was one of the first books I read, i was 10. "I'm sure I've read it before, but it was so long ago that I thought I would read it again for the purposes of checking it off the 1001 list. I'm looking forward to it!
Felietony zdjęte przez cenzurę by Stefan Kisielewski, a music critic, politician and commentator of life in People's Republic of Poland (he died in 1991).
Melinda,How are you liking Middlesex? I read it not too long ago, and really enjoyed it. I grew up near Detroit and appreciated some of the local references.
Just started The Crime of Father Amaro by Eça de Queirós. I'm reading it in Portuguese, so might take some time...
I haven't started it just yet, but I just got The Swarm: A Novel (881 pp), and holy cow it is a mega-brick! Pretty funny considering I picked up The Time Machine (86 pp) at the same time.
I just started Anna Karenina this week. I was going to get another book at the same time, but it'll take me awhile to get through this one.
