I've just started Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy...can't say much about it so far though, as I'm only on page 5!! :)

There is nothing by Rand on either of the lists.
I just started Survivor for a work book club. Not on the list, but I've heard both good and bad about Chuck Palahniuk, so I'm looking forward to it.
Reading Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? this weekend. I can't believe I've never read it before!

Survivor is the only Palahniuk book that I have tried to read, and I couldn't even get through the first chapter. i'm afraid to try again.
Margaret - I think that may be the case. A lot of people have told me that. Do you have another that you would recommend. Nothing to graphic?
Started Roderick Random by Smollett last night, borrowed the book from the library. Had a look to see when this book was last taken out and was amazed that it was last stamped in may 1979. Fun book and typical of the period, reads a lot like Tom Jones, basically a series of adventures in which the hero finds himself.
I've just started Laughing Boy: A Navajo Love Story by Oliver LaFarge, but it's not on the 1001 Books list. My next book to read on the list will be Cry, the Beloved Country, as soon as I finish LB.
Linda wrote: "My next book to read on the list will be Cry, the Beloved Country, as soon as I finish LB."Also on my TBR list. I hope to read it soon.

Michael wrote: "just stated Master and Magarita. Good so far. Its my No 186 on the list."Keep on reading, Michael. It's really fascinating book.
I started then finished Lolita and The Spy Who Came in From the Cold. Now I restarted The Enormous Room.
I started Lanark A Life in Four Books last night. I'm trying Anna Karenina on my iPhone. And I think I'm going to be working on Ulysses with Gifford's Ulysses Annotated. My boyfriend and I may read the Ulysses together.I've gotten pretty compulsive about reading things off this list, hence the mania to try and read more than one at once.
I just started The Woman in White by Willkie Collins. I haven't got that far yet, but I really like how the story is strcutured, told from the point of view of several different people.
I'm still working on two other books, but decided to start The Lottery And Other Stories since it came in the mail today.

I really want to read it as I really enjoyed The Moonstone.
Chel wrote: "I started The Sorrows of Young Werther by Goethe. "Oh, interesting, Chel. Are you reading it in English or in German?

I'm reading an English translation. It seems very good. It was all the rave in Europe when it came out and men dressed like the character. It also made Goethe a celebrity author.

"The Cellar" by Richard Laymon.
I really love his books and this one is one of his best ones!

That's good to hear - I just picked this book up at my local library as I was looking for a quick, fun read for th..."
Cool! Maybe we can talk a bit about it next week. I used to work at a redbrick college in the UK, so it's really hitting home.
