Which LIST book did you just start?
I just started Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. I've seen the movie, but I am trying to put the movie out of my mind while I read the book.

Karina wrote: "Started The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery last night. I really like it so far!"I'm just over half way through it and struggling. I'm reading just to finish it at this point. Hope you have a better experience than I am.

It gets better. I gave up on it the first time through and struggled the second time but really ended up enjoying it.

Oh, please let me know your thoughts on this one. I just checked it out from the library and expect to read it in the next couple of weeks.

I hated that book. With a vengeance. But everybody seems to love it, so it might be just me.

I rather liked it, which surprised me. At first I tried to identify with Werther's emotions and could not, of course, so I read the remainder of the novel as a character study and enjoyed it more that way. Goethe does a great job of recounting a young man's senseless spiral into darkness.

I wrote my post before I got to a part that started to drag. I did finish the book but didn't like it as much as I thought ar the beginning.
The Portrait of a LadyI'm still reading The Pigeon, but started James' Portrait of a Lady yesterday as well.
I am just starting these 2 from the list:1. The Jungle
2. Far from the Madding Crowd
plus my free read:
3. In the Company of the Courtesan
Just starting my first Eco: Foucault's PendulumOnly ever seen Name of the Rose at the movies before and somehow that just doesn't count :-D
Still plan to finish "The Pigeon", but yesterday I started a re-read of Elliot's "Adam Bede". It's been many, many years since I've read it.Adam Bede
Started and finished The Yellow Wall-paper by Gilman yesterday. Also started Germinal by Zola and The Time Machine by Wells.
Rachel (Sfogs) wrote: "I've just started into the very large Cloudsplitter by Russell Banks. Here goes nothing..."
I remember reading this one! It was large, but I remember liking it when I was finished with it. I've always been interested in that era though and ten to like books set in that time. Good luck and hope you enjoy it.

It's excellent! Enjoy!
I'm killing 2 birds with one stone with The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy as my 'own' reading (meant to read it for years and loving it!) and then doubling up with The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe as my daughter's bedtime story :D
Started Threepenny novel by Brecht, picked it up from the library with Giles Goat-boy and The diaries of Jane Somers.
Ivy's Mom wrote: "I started The Lord of the Rings at lunch today. Does this count for 3 books? No? OK, didn't think so. It's 1008 pages, plus appendices A to F and my goal is to finish by Easter. Wish me luck!"I've read the trilogy 3 or 4 times now. You can probably guess that I loved it. Enjoy!
Am currently plodding my way through House of Leaves. Seems like the more pages I read the more I still have to go. Debating whether this book is blooming brilliant or just gimmicky. Hmm, maybe I'll make up my mind after I finish.
Have started The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, which I'm really enjoying. Needed something modern after two big 18th century books (Emile and Tom Jones).
Having another go at The Tin Drum, and am (surprisingly) enjoying it this time (although on reflection, 'enjoy' might not quite be the right word).

The ending for me was really, really strange!

I'm enjoying it so far through it's harder to carry around with me ;-)

It's just that brilliant!
Just starting The New York Trilogy by Paul Auster. He is in the list a lot and this is my first crack at him. Boy I hope I like his writing. On another note I just joined this group. I have been working on this list for quite some time. I think it is a great way to read the classics, and know whats worth reading in my generation.

This was also the first Auster I read, and I was totally blown away by it. For me, it's one of those books that totally deserves the praise that's heaped at it. Enjoy!
Oh my! I just finished the first book in the trilogy, and it was all I could talk about. I like how he adds interesting facts into his writing, for example the Brooklyn Bridge. Really getting into this book!
Craig wrote: "Island of Dr. Moreau -Wells"Also good - I enjoyed it almost as much as The Time Machine.

for some reason I think of "No Spill Blood" by Oingo Boingo and Are We Not Men by Devo, when I think of Island of Dr. Moreau.

I'm Not Scared"
that has one of the best endings of many a novel. Enjoy it."
Really? I didn't care for this. For one thing, there was nothing scary about it.
