Just finished The Little Prince, still plodding along with David Copperfield, but starting The Shining also.

Started Finding Time Again vol 7 of In Search of Lost Time. Also slotted two quick books in Love's work by Rose and Rituals by Nooteboom. It maybe coincidence but both books mention ISOLT, Rituals talks about M de Charlus a character from ISOLT. Whilst in Love's Work one of the characters reads ISOLT once a year. Enjoyed reading ISOLT so much that I'm not looking forward to finishing it.
Now 30 pages into Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K Dick. I've read a few of his other novels and stories so am excited for this little adventure. The plan is to finally watch Blade Runner when I am done.
I am starting The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul, I will go on record as saying, I loved the Hitchhiker series, but just don't LIKE this series. I attempted another Rushdie book, Midnight's Children, & even though it makes more SENSE than the others I've read, I still am NOT a Rushdie fan. Also reading Go Down Moses by Faulkner, & am completely enjoying it. Have on deck The Dispossessed by LeGuin, as well as Tender is the Night, by Fitzgerald.Recently finished The Optimist's Daughter by Welty & The Bluest Eye by Morrison. Both were fast reads, & I enjoyed them both!
Just started Flaubert's Parrot last night, and I'm already almost done with it! Highly entertaining so far, although I suppose in an intellectual, farcical way.
I am starting Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. My contemporary literature class voted to add it to our syllabus because the professor kept comparing our readings to it/offering excerpts as examples. I've seen the Kubrick film, but already know I am in for a new literary experience with this one!
Started Adjunct: An undigest by Manson, hard book to track down and I've seen one copy of Amazon for an inflated price, tried the library and bookshops but no joy. Finally bought a copy from the publisher at a tenth of the price I'd seen for a second-hand copy.
Just started The Crime of Father Amaro: Scenes from the Religious Life and so far am finding it surprisingly readable.

I've ordered, re-ordered, sent them an email to inquire...crickets. I wish they would just tell me if they can't ship to me - grrrr, very frustrating!
On another note, I'm almost halfway through The Satanic Verses. Very dense and challenging, but I am actually enjoying it....I guess magical realism is my style. I took the advice of strangers on the internet and read Midnight's Children first to introduce myself to Rushdie's style in a bit more of an accessible way, and then I did some background reading on the history of Islam and the story of Mohammed and the satanic verses. That was crucial - I feel like I'm 'getting' much more than I would be otherwise.

Good strategy. Wish I had done it. I love Rushdie and could have gotten much more out of the book, I think if I had done a little background reading.
The Autumn of the Patriarch - Gabriel Garcia MarquezMarvelous writing in stream-of-consciousness style.
Having just finished Oliver Twist it is now on to another classic in Gulliver's Travels. Again a book I feel that I already know without actually having ever read it.
Right now I started the life of pi. I've jeard it was good so that made this one pushed up higher than the others. Plus it was easily accessible to me.
Dana wrote: "Just started Sputnik Sweetheart by Haruki Murakami...so far, it's pretty interesting."Although not my favourite Murakami this ranks right up there. Loved it!
Just started Nicholas Nickleby today.I'm enjoying it so far, though a bit daunted by it's size and the tiny writting in my copy. But I can now say I've started my first book by Charles Dickens! :P
Currently reading House of Leaves by Mark Z Danielewski. If anyone has previously been put off this by its reputation I'd say don't be afraid and give it a go (I ignored this book on my shelf for the best part of 18 months so know the feeling!).

That was my first Murakami thanks to this list. Now he is one of my favorite authors!

I've also got a few that I own, decisions, decisions.
Deanne - Nervous Conditions is a wonderful book; I recommend that one if it helps you choose what to read next! You still working on Sister Carrie?
I'm with Bucket, Nervous Conditions is one of my favorites from the list so far.I just started a reread of Mrs. Dalloway. It's been over 10 years since I read it, and I have been meaning to go back to it.
BucketStill reading Sister Carrie on my kindle, about 12% in and although it started slowly it seems to be picking up.
How's ISOLT going.
I began reading the novella sized Double Indemnity. I've read his other two most famous novels, and am pleased to see this one is just as fun.
Kelly wrote: "The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne BronteI am suprised I am enjoying this so much."
I'm just about to start this too!
I'm through Sodom and Gomorrah now, and waiting for a super long distance library loan of volume 5 to show up! :)
I have been reading Faceless Killers by Henning MankellIt's my first Wallander and I'm liking it right now. And it's quite a short read.. only 300 pages.
A Fine Balance is on my plate to start today. I've taken a break from list books the past month or so, and I'm glad to back to it with this one.
