JS Our Mutual Friend and it's going quickly as I'm "reading' it on audio. Already 1/4 through.(@Donna, those aren't official "List" books.)
Just started The Time Machine and Fanny Hill, or Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure. Sometimes it's just nice to speed through a couple of short books!
I just started The Secret History for our group read. Also still working on The Case of Comrade Tulayev on audiobook. I'm having a hard time following it. I think the audio format is not good for this kind of very episodic story.Of course, my current immersion in re-reads of Bleak House and Our Mutual Friend are making everything else look very tame by comparison.
A question: Is the whole of The Alexandria Quartet included in the first list? Because the last editions, I think, only included Justine. I'm starting Balthazar, but I'm not sure if I can consider it a list book.
I just tonight started Portrait in Sepia
It's a follow up to Daughter of Fortune, & I LOVED that one. This one picks up with Eliza's & Tao's daughter Lynn, & is told by Lynn's daughter Aurora, as she traces her past. It's been another one of her can't put down books :) I'm easily already halfway through :)

It took my library nearly 3 weeks to get it through their interlibrary loan program, but it was SO worth the wait :)
Corina wrote: "I started Miller`s Tropic of Cancer. It`s kind of...hmmm...over the top? To say the least. It makes me laugh though so I guess that`s a good thing." That book was hilarious, & definitely over the top. I can't remember if his other book, Tropic of Capricorn, is on the list or not, I think it is, & I'm going to put that one on my to be read short list when I get back into finishing up a few I stopped 3/4 of the way through & ran out of time on. After New Year's, I have to pick back up Woman In White, & The Temple of My Familiar.
Started Harriet Hume by Rebecca West, a quick read. Over half way through A Dream of Red Mansions, feel like I'm getting somewhere with this one and enjoying the journey.
I just picked Anna Karenina up again after a year and a half of neglecting it. I'm really enjoying it :)
Karina wrote: "The Driver's Seat by Muriel Sparks. Looking forward to a quick read."I just finished that :) I really enjoyed it :)
Elizabeth (Alaska) wrote: "Going to start Pnin today. I just finished Now in November, which is not a list book, but for those of you who might also be working the Pulitzer list, it's worth the time."There's a Pulitzer list too? LOL, I'm already working my way through this list & the banned/challenged book lists!
Just started to take on Cryptonomicon, which is an 1100 page behemoth on subjects that are mostly alien to me. Still, the first 30 pages have been interesting. We'll see how this goes. :)
Started The Thinking Reed by West, just getting into it. Isabelle the main character makes a decision which seems to have consequences, good or bad I've yet to find out.
I just started The Thirty-Nine Stepsby John Buchan. I needed a quick read to finish by the end of the year, and it seems to be going quite quickly! I watched the old Hitchcock movie years ago, but not much of it stuck with me, apparently.
Janie wrote: "Dicken's Oliver Twist. How fantastic is this! And why didn't I read this years ago?"I rarely, if ever, re-read stuff, but I did read this years ago, and am thinking about a re-read.
I'm getting ready to start Birdsong as soon as I quit posting here. ;-)
Karina wrote: "Just started Moll Flanders by Daniel DeFoe. Looks interesting!"I really liked Moll Flanders!
I just started (and finished) The Little PrinceAnd also started Cat's Cradle, which is going pretty quickly :) MUCH more entertaining than the first one of his I read. I wish I'd started with this one, I wouldn't have been so hesitant to read any of his others.
Also have on tap Ethan Frome & Summer when I'm done with Cat's Cradle.
Still working on Sophie's Choice, which is going a little slower than I anticipated. I've already decided I do not like the character Nathan!
I just started Northanger Abbey yesterday and I'm already halfway through. Once I'm done with this, I'll have read all of Austen's work.
Just beginning The Magus and really don't know what to expect as the ratings and reviews are such a mixed bag. Well, nothing ventured...
The Pilgrim's Progress which I understand was removed from the list in 2006. However, from my perspective, once on the list, always on the list. Wanted to read it before I started Vanity Fair since it is my understanding the two are somewhat related.
Vanity Fair gets it's name from one of the places that the Pilgrim visits in The Pilgrim's Progress.Started Cryptonomicon and really enjoying it, big book but doesn't read like one.
Last night I started both The Secret History and They Shoot Horses, Don't They?. They Shoot Horses is pretty short and I hope to have it finished by the end of the year.
I have just started Quo Vadis by Henryk Sienkiewicz.Because of its setting in Rome during Nero's rule, some of the vocabulary is hard to understand. I need to keep a dictionary on hand. :D although with the vocabulary, I am finding it a delicious book to read.
I just started Saturday. It doesn't seem terribly exciting but it is interesting to see how perspectives on 9/11 have shifted in the past decade.
