I am confused. Considering towards the end of the book, while Ruth was constantly searching for answers, she already knew the outcome of their fates through the email from the professor, but somehow she failed to bring it up. Could it be that, the email triggered her to enter the dream? Because it was only after Ruth received the 2nd email from the Professor that she entered her dream and followed the crow and imagined that she persuaded the father to skip the suicide date.

I think you've got the order of the book confused. The dream precedes the email.
