The Deep Web seems to have become terribly mainstream all of a sudden.

Yeah, that makes sense as it seems a naïve belief to me to think just downloading encryption technologies like Tor (which I discovered in the doco was created by the US military) could prevent the highest echelons of governments or intelligence agencies from tracking you.

If you don't mind me asking, were you aware of the Deep Web before it went mainstream?
I'm very late to the party with reading up on it. It was one of those things I wanted to learn more about a few years ago, but never got around to it.
From what I've heard, it seems like the Deep Web could potentially have a lot of positive benefits...Kind of like the last line of defence if governments turn fascist or otherwise totalitarian. For example, the documentary I just watched mentioned how the Deep Web is being used in nations like China and Iran where the regular internet is highly censored by those governments.
However, it also seems like a place where networks of criminals can work undetected and orchestrate crimes such as human trafficking more effectively.
And then there's activity inbetween those two extremes where Deep Web users seem to be doing things that are illegal but perhaps not unethical or immoral (depending on your perspective). An example of this middle ground, according to the doco I watched, is where drug addicts are getting drugs online from dealers on the Deep Web. A journalist was interviewed saying this is a far safer way to get drugs for addicts as the dealers have ratings and customer feedback/reviews on their profile page. And so the Deep Web is undermining The War on Drugs which depending on your POV is either a humanitarian program or a money grabbing, pursuit of power project...
I'd still like to hear from others who have either used the Deep Web or know more about it.

Yes, but I've certainly taken more of an interest in it of late due to a "game" said to inhabit the Deep Web called Sad Satan.
The high profile Ashley Madison hack seems to have introduced a lot people recently to the Deep Web.

Indeed they did. Which might make the game's existence all the more intriguing to those of us who lurk here at "Underground Knowledge".

There is the deep web and the dark web. I'm not sure which is which but one is just web pages that aren't indexed and hard to find unless you know where they are.

Dang that Sad Satan stuff looks kinda creepy...

No clue if any of these people's tips work, but I thought it was interesting.

Have heard great things about this book.

Shhhhhh,
Don't give "them" any ideas!
Otherwise they'll engineer a cyber 9/11 type event to create a digital equivalent to the Patriot Act or other laws that came into being to supposedly protect "National Security"....

The best quote from that article is:
"Are you telling us we should be more worried about the clear web than the dark web?
Most people should be much more worried about the clear web. Especially with the amount of information we provide to social media both knowingly and unknowingly: we have pretty much entered a post-privacy world, where our online lives are tightly connected to our offline lives, with the result that our information is up for sale."

And we have movies like The Circle, starring Tom Hanks and Emma Watson, which has a message at the end (spoiler alert, but don't worry the film sucks) is that we The People should willingly give up our online privacy...Supposedly being in a post-privacy world will empower us all...Go figure!

In the wake of recent violent events in the U.S., many people are expressing concern about the tone and content of online communications, including talk of the “dark web.” Despite the sinister-sounding phrase, there is not just one “dark web.” The term is actually fairly technical in origin, and is often used to describe some of the lesser-known corners of the internet. As I discuss in my new book, “Weaving the Dark Web: Legitimacy on Freenet, Tor, and I2P,” the online services that make up what has become called the “dark web” have been evolving since the early days of the commercial internet – but because of their technological differences, are not well understood by the public, policymakers or the media.
As a result, people often think of the dark web as a place where people sell drugs or exchange stolen information – or as some rare section of the internet Google can’t crawl. It’s both, and neither, and much more.

Privacy is an illusion and social media is a killer. That is the premise in Douglas J Wood's new novel Dark Data: Control, Alt, Delete and while his story is fiction, the circumstances he put his characters into are very real. Wood joins Richard Syrett (Twitter) to share the dangers of the dark web and a warning of the near-future, where an evil dystopian reality is one click, share, tweet, or like away.

What is the Marianas Web? https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-Mar...
Marianas web : is the darkest corner of the internet which clamied to have data such as location of holy Grail and unpublished Vatican incidents and stories which is impossible to hack
How deep is it ?
Marianas web is the fifth level of legandary eight levels of internet
How Marianas web is accessed ?
It is accessed by using a network quantum computers with software architecture that can store and process information on artificially modified photons
Quantum computers allow particles to exist in two states simultaneously this structural instability means it is impossible for hackers to penetrate
Does it really exist ?
The Marianas web origins are mostly from forum based discussions no one ever claimed to visit this web it is only hypothetical
Marianas web is possible but the technology required to create such is not available right now

Fascinating doco (titled Deep Web) so far. It's saying that the Deep Web is not just for criminals like mainstream media is implying, but rather it's for journalists, whistleblowers and radical thinkers.
Does anyone know anything more about the deep web?
Would love to hear about any experiences of anyone who has been on the deep web.
