Charlotte Weber There are some books that strike a chord deep within your soul and this was one of those books. It's hard for me to coherently put into words just how I feel about this collection of short stories. I am intrigued and horrified at the way O'Brien puts the Vietnam War into perspective. This is far from a political outcry against the war in general but there is a sense that nobody wants to be there, and yet there's nowhere else these men would really rather be. O'Brien skillfully weaves the past with the present, the real and the made-up to where I have no idea what to believe but for the most part, I pray that it is completely false and none of this ever happened. I think this is an essential read for anyone to get a clearer picture on the lost generation that was sent to war in the jungle without really knowing why.
