I read this book around 1988/89. It was set in Texas with the girl being stranded (possibly ft worth) and staying the night in a brothel (spare bedroom in the back) The hero is named Linc. He appears to be a shady character but in fact is an undercover ranger. The madame of the brothel usually keeps the back room for him never knowing when he will show up. He enters the room the night the girl is there and that is how they meet.
