Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments I heard there's nearly 2000 workers there. But it's going to have a big knock on affect for others in the area too. Only got a weeks worth of coal for the place to keep going it said on the news.
Really sad news. Hope someone steps in and buys them.

Jim | 21809 comments Problem is with commodities down at the moment and the Chinese command economy stalling, I'm not sure why anybody would want to buy them, other than purely as a social gesture

Anita | 3313 comments Sorry to hear that Eastwood, my husband works in the steel Industry, not a good time for any of them at the moment.

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments Sorry to hear that Eastwood!! Must be really tough

Need a hug! I know a lot of you are aware of the problems we have been having with my 91 year old Nan recently. She has got to the point now where she is no longer safe to live on her own.
Yesterday was the tipping point of her admitting that actually she probably needs a home, two of her neighbours have told us in the last two days that she is becoming too much for them too. She constantly rings them asking to come and make her tea or breakfast!!
We have all been doing so much for her (well, my side of the family has, my aunts side........ Not so much) but Sunday she had a fall. Yesterday my mum had to go down to hers as she had 'messed herself'. She got in her walk in bath (with mums help). Mum then went in to the bedroom and Nan tried to stand up and managed to open the door on the bath and the bath full of water emptied onto the floor, through the ceiling and in to the kitchen!!
It breaks my heart to admit she can no longer manage and to see her in a home will be very difficult.
My Aunt has been very anti getting her to go in a home (we think because she wants to preserve the money in my Nans home) but even she can't deny it now!!

Sorry guys, that was an essay!!

Remember I said I had to have my cat rehomed? The 'new' owner text me the other day to say that they are having to re home him now. He has started to attack them and spits and hisses at visitors!! Is so sad, he actually is a lovely cat!,

It's good that there is interest in him Jud

message 216: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Hugs for Emma, it is such a difficult step for a family to take.
Hugs for you too Jud. I hope Biscuit finds his forever home. Many years ago we had to give up a spaniel we rescued when it became apparent he had such a fear of men he responded by attacking them, our son was around 7 at the time so just couldn't justify the risk. Although I know we made the right decision I still miss the wee soul.

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments Sorry to hear about your Nan Emz. But you know it will be the best thing for her. I'm sure you'll find her somewhere nice.

When I was very small we had a dog. But when I ran around she always snapped at my heels. She was probably only playing but my parents couldn't take the risk of her really hurting someone.
She went to a home with no children and a massive garden. Her new owners said she was really happy. So it worked out best for all concerned.

eastwood (do you feel lucky punk, well do ya) | 8545 comments overwhelmed by the amount of support for the steelworks in redcar, cheers guys, lasts is there is a ship anchored off redcar coastline, waiting to deliver fuel for the coke ovens to keep the place ticking over, however the money is the problem, if that ship sails away the steelworks will shut permanently.

message 219: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments There is a lot of support nationwide for you and your colleges, you are in our thoughts at such a difficult time.

eastwood (do you feel lucky punk, well do ya) | 8545 comments seen a few of my mates crying this week, not very pleasant, its hard to know what to say.

message 221: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I don't suppose there is anything you can say. It's a horrible situation.

Cuddles from me too, to you and all of Redcar ((o))

message 222: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments An awful thing to witness, there is nothing you can say really and all the support in the world doesn't put food on the table does it.

Sadly MIL is now in hospital with a broken hip:@(
Phil's sister has taken over to give us a few days to settle son into his new flat before we return to Yorkshire on Thursday.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Oh! I love the name Xanthe! It would have been on my shortlist but Gareth vehemently refused to consider it. Stupid boy.

Congratulations to parents and grandparents and of course the little lady of the hour herself.

message 234: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments I am so sorry that you are having such a bad time right now, sendin lov and hugs for you and Phil's Mum, she was doing so well, this must be very difficult for her now she hasn't got her independence. Am so pleased to hear that Phil's sister is helping out. Hope the new flat will bring lots of luck and happiness as I'm sure the new baby will do, hope you have had lots of cuddles already and that both Mum and baby are doing well.

message 236: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Thanks for the hugs and sending them back to you all.
I won't manage to see baby till next month as they are down in Dumfries but have had lots of photos sent to keep me going till then.
MIl had her surgery by epidural (brave lady) and is already organising everyone to ensure she gets an early discharge home.
Currently packing up all son's belongings we have stored here before going through to Glasgow tomorrow. I've made soup, roasted a joint of ham and baked lots of cakes for everyone involved in the move. He has hired a 'man with a van' so here's hoping he doesn't make off with the furniture. Son laughed when I suggested he take van man's photo and registration number.LOL!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Good luck with everything Sarah, you've certainly got a lot on at the moment, I saw those van men had scarpered with a couples possessions. Who would have thought it. Hope you enjoy being grandparents!

message 238: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Thanks Lynne, sadly it was a new great niece and not a grandchild. When we become grandparents you'll hear the celebrations over in France;@) I'll even invite you all to celebrate with us. Can't wait!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I'm still shell shocked over my grandson, sorry I mis read that Sarah. I'm going to be a full time nanny when I get home. Daughter is back to work and I volunteered to do it for 6 months. I'm in training.

message 240: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments You'll love it, Lynne. Although I find children more interesting after they can communicate a bit...

Our really good friends in Baku had their first baby yesterday. Little girl.

Awwwwwwwww

I'm thinking of bringing a sleep sack back for them.

Anyone have any suggestions on a good brand? There's a few on Amazon.

I read that as a sack of sleep. Obviously I'm short of sleep as I thought yes new parents, up all night with crying infant will need plenty of sleep.

I don't have a crying infant keeping me awake. Just a dog. The budgie is no bother at all.

message 242: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments My mother had a budgie years ago.

Noisy, dirty thing.

I presume the budgie was clean.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Good morning, I read it as sheep sack, being Welshish, no recommendations as for brand but my daughter loves them, she said Harry slept better when he had his. Geoff, you made me laugh, as always xx

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh he's a card, our Geoff.

Should be dealt with.

Anita | 3313 comments I'm so pleased to see that MIL hasn't lost any of her confidence and I'm sure she will be home and off out and about very soon, she's amazing ! Fingers crossed for the move, I know you won't do it but please try to sit back a little and do the lighter jobs, there are many to do and I worry that you are getting very tired after all that's happened this year, I worry about you my friend ! Biggest ((((((((((((((((((((((((HUG)))))))))))))))))))))))))) ever coming your way X X X X

Congratulations to your friends Patti, what a lovely time for them. If you do find any sacks full of sleep could you send me one aswell please, could do with a good night.

Being a Granny is the best thing in the world Lynne ! We all love our kids but grandparent love takes it to another level. I sit and think about 6 years ago and we were all preparing ourselves that we might not be lucky enough to be grandparents but look at us now, Evie almost 5 and little Holly almost 2, what more could we want, we count ourselves the luckiest people in the world and enjoy every second with them. I'm sure you will enjoy being such a hands on Granny as much as I do, can't wait to hear all about it, the nice thing is that as a Granny you can do all the silliest things that as a parent you either didn't have time for or didn't want to look silly, I can often be seen singing and dancing my way round Asda and the nice thing is how many other people join in, it's better than a fed up crying child stuck in the trolley ! We have a ball, sure you will too !

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I'm looking forward to it. It will do husband good as well, he'll take him out too. He's not too keen to be hands on with baby led weaning. I've got a fabulous photo of Harry wearing spaghetti bolognese. His eyebows were still orange after his bath. I've just posted it in photos. She turned her back on him a moment and he put both hands in the sauce and wiped them over his face, giggling all the time.

message 248: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments Priceless Lynne ! He is such a cutie, what a cheeky grin he has too, I can see lots of messy fun ahead for you all !

message 249: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Thanks for that extra large Hug Anita. House move completed for another year. Phil and I were counting that including son's 4 flittings that's 12 full house moves we've made over the years. We are experts ;@)
Don't worry about me please I thrive on being busy, organising, planning and making lists but know and accept my limitations.
Harry is gorgeous Lynne, what a joy!

message 250: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments Pleased it's all done now, goodness that's a lot of house moves, we have only had 2, I will know where to come for a plan should we ever decide to move again.
