M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I've dropped my phone in the lavatory, which means I have to buy a new one, but I can't buy any old crappy £10 one to tide me over while I save up for a decent one, I have to shell out £70 or thereabouts on a crap smartphone so I can run my parents' banking app. Otherwise, no-one gets paid.

Hoping I will get away with borrowing one from my father in law. We're charging it up now so with any luck it'll work. Not happy though. Phone is currently in bits on a piece of tissue on my in law's radiator ... I should be able to soak it in alcohol and get it going again but as I was standing up to pull my trousers up, pre flush, when it pinged out of my pocket and into the pan, I am not holding out much hope.

Cheers

MTM

message 1372: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Noooooo! Get it off the radiator and into a bag of raw rice, right now!!!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I got a smartphone on amazon's warehouse for £28. 4 years old but works just fine.

message 1374: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Apparently if I soak mine in 99% rubbing alcohol it will get all the um ... corrosion ... off it and it'll work again.

However, how do I find Amazon's warehouse? Google it?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I posted a couple of options on your facebook post

However, look at your amazon page and click on 'Today's Deals' in the menu bar. There will now be a white menu bar under the normal one, and the 3rd option is 'Warehouse deals' You can search within that using the normal search box.

Until Christmas can come to be remembering someone who has gone.

How heartbreaking for his family and friends.

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Thanks Anita. And GL, had a lovely time at home :) back up north now and it hit me again last night a little bit. But going out for lunch with a friend who had a mock phd viva yesterday and hated it so we're going to cheer each other up!

message 1398: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments It'll pass. Everything does but it's hard to get through sometimes. Big ((HUG)) xx

message 1399: by T4bsF (Call me Flo) (new)

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) Glad you're on the mend Claire - but what on earth is a "phd viva" ??

message 1400: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments The viva is a interview/presentation type thing where the panel ask questions about your phd and pick apart your thesis (I think that's what they do in it anyway!) and then ultimately decide if you've passed your phd yet.
