Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Sorry to hear about your brother Patti, thinking of you and yours and adding another ((((HUG)))). Take care and try not to worry too much, he is in the best place.
Phil's mam had a massive heart attack in her fifties, she celebrates her 93d birthday on Wednesday, hoping brother has the same outcome.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Patti, another GR Love hug from me for your bro, and you. Thinking of you.

While I'm posting, thanks for previous hugs - my parents now have a 24 hour live in carer, starting today. I am incredibly relieved!

Happy Easter all.

cheers

MTM

How is Phill's Mum settling in Sarah ? Will you be going down for her birthday? 93 is a grand age, please pass on a happy birthday from me.

message 1006: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments I will Anita. Sadly we won't be joining her on Wednesday as the journey from here is a nightmare, no direct trains or buses so numerous changes are required and Phil's knee although improving is neither up to the driving or the walking involved. We keep in touch by phone and Skype but her deafness is a barrier. Mam herself is doing very well though running SIL ragged, we bought her some wireless headphones for her birthday as she has the whole house up during the night with the TV blaring. We have plans to meet up in the Lake District later in the year, all being well.

I bought my mum some wireless headphones as she was going a bit deaf and she used to love watching gangster films, with the sound up high, really late at night. I don't know how her neighbours put up with it. She loved her headphones and used to get through loads of batteries for them. Everyone was happy in the end.

message 1011: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Thanks Vanessa, that's reassuring as we were a bit concerned she would find them awkward with her deafness. These are re-chargable so hopefully batteries won't be a problem and they sit on a stand so she can keep them at the side of her bed.
Oops she's speaking to Phil on the phone at the moment and telling us she's only 92, he,he we are more confused than she is.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Can I have a cuddle please, had to let a bloke down after 3 dates, I've never been in this position, not quite sure why I feel so bad

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Cuddle coming up for Desley. If there's no spark and hes not just a friend it's best for both of you. I went out with a couple of really nice men, (when my now husband and I stopped going out before we were married). They were both lovely but just not right for me. You're very kind so it is hard to disappoint someone but if you know you don't feel affection for him it's best to be honest. Xx

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Thanks Lynne, there wasn't a spark when we kissed and I wasn't sure we had enough in common. If he hadn't been so keen I might have tried a fourth date but didn't think it was fair.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Desley (Cat fosterer) wrote: "Thanks Lynne, there wasn't a spark when we kissed and I wasn't sure we had enough in common. If he hadn't been so keen I might have tried a fourth date but didn't think it was fair."

There are lots of nice people, but you will only be attracted to a small subset of them. Some of it is actually hormonal - and you can't possibly know that in advance; which is why you meet, and go on dates, and spend some time together.

You did exactly right: gave it a good try, and are being upfront about it, and are being polite to him - it does neither of you any good to continue.

Be of good cheer: if you have to date 100 to find the 1, you now only have 99 to go. Meanwhile, have fun!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Thanks for making me smile Alicia! And at least I told him, unlike some blokes I've met. I did contemplate becoming a nun, maybe I should rethink that!

Sorry you won't be with her for health reasons but I'm sure you will make up for it when you see her later on. Sounds like she is getting on in fine style as always ! The headphones are a great idea, I'm sure your SIL will be eternally grateful for your gift. I'm sure she will have a lovely day.

Big cuddle Desley ((( cuddle ))) sorry it didn't work out but better now than later on and I think you have done the best thing for both of you. Mr right will be along at some point but you will know when he does as there will be more than a spark to let you know. Just enjoy the looking for now, cuddle one of your little furry friends, that always brings a smile or two.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Thanks Anita, I'll go and sit with the kittens, they always put a smile on my face

Being a nun is a vocation. Do you have it?

Seriously, I read somewhere in a science magazine that pheromones play a big part in finding a partner even for humans, and that if they are not right, it isn't going to work very well. There was some speculation whether there was a genetic reason for it (given that the predilection for someone who 'smells right' has survived an awful lot of years of evolution, and if useless would probably have been bred out of existence by now).

You pick up the guy's pheromones with your nose (there are specialize sensor cells) and your brain processes and reports possible/not good idea). If you kissed him, you were close enough to smell him (unconsciously - you'll look weird if you go around sniffing). And vice versa, of course, but maybe women are more selective.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Hmm, probably not!
Yeah, I think I've heard that theory.

message 1021: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Seems my bro has developed a pneumonia and high fever which is elevating his blood pressure and heart rate. He's in ICU in a hospital in northern BC. My sisinlaw sez his doc is in constant consultation with the top cardiologist in Vancouver, so that's good.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Fingers crossed Patti

Cuddle from me, Desley. That's a brave thing you've done.

Aww, thanks

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Ouch, Patti. Sounds like a 'mild' heart attack is part of a greater problem. Hopefully, when they get that under control he can get back to normal more quickly.
