Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Your doing well Jud, it's really hard going living with someone with depression.

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Cuddles Jud. Yeah, I totally understand what it's like for him. My OCD and Anxiety will trigger my depression a lot.

message 803: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments That was lovely Claire, taken me all day to read it right to the end though.

You are doing a great job Jud, we are always here to lend support, it's not easy and you got little Kathleen to look after too, that's exhausting enough on its own. Have a (((HUG))) honey.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Lost one of our ducks overnight. The inappropriately named Itty Bitty. As is often the case, it is the strain of the molt that does for them.

The others were quite subdued.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Aww, that's sad Geoff

message 806: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments That's awful Geoff ! I'm sure the others are missing their little friend. Extra ((( HUGS))) for the rest of your ducks.

Isn't something about having your good flight feathers available for spring and autumn migrations?

It could be right, Jim. However our lot say they'll never fly Ryanair.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments I was looking up IBD, Jud. I hadn't realised how different and how more serious it is than IBS. I can understand why he suffers so much now.

Good job he has someone who is so understanding.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Tell Linda I'm sorry about the duck, Geoff. :(

message 813: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I don't even think it is IBD (it's neither crohn's nor colitis) but it is more like that than IBS it has never been given a name by medical professionals because they can't pinpoint what it is but it is horrendous and when it hits he is completely wiped out. He can lose entire days because of it.

Sorry about your duck Geoff :o(

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Thanks all.

I know what it's like to have an indeterminate diagnosis. Linda and Sophie have been diagnosed with ME, but only by elimination of other things. The remainder therefore being ME.

I've had that for 27 years. It is STILL being diagnosed by exclusion. Linda and Sophie have my heartfelt sympathy.

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Sorry about the duck Geoff and also commiserate with the lack of a proper diagnosis for Linda and Sophie.

It's only when you get a diagnosis like that and do some research that you begin to realise how many illnesses are diagnosed the same way.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I'm not surprised Geoff. Some GP's surgeries operate an 'only one symptom' consultation. You can't say can you look at something else. The two or even three problems could well be all the same illness. Whatever happened to the holistic approach?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Lynne (Tigger's Mum) wrote: "I'm not surprised Geoff. Some GP's surgeries operate an 'only one symptom' consultation. You can't say can you look at something else. The two or even three problems could well be all the same illn..."

That seems so stupid, my joint issue (can't actually spell it's real name!!), was diagnosed because of a rash - I couldn't understand why the rheumatologist was asking loads of questions about it when I Was there over my joints!! The one the year before dismissed me for being too healthy, I had to have another flare up to get diagnosed, then 6 years later, when I had a bad psoriasis flare up he decided his initial one was wrong!!

message 822: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (last edited Feb 04, 2016 06:55AM) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments My daughter had a brilliant paediatrician. She had juvenile arthritis and he asked me if she had a rash. I said no, but when we went to get a water sample her legs (under her winter tights) were actually covered in purple blotches. Some ailments have bizarre symptoms but everyone so deserves to be treated a a whole person, not just one symptom.

message 823: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments That is really a rather stupid rule. Are you allowed to book 3 appointments at a time because you have 3 different symptoms?

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Jud (Disney Diva) wrote: "That is really a rather stupid rule. Are you allowed to book 3 appointments at a time because you have 3 different symptoms?"

One of my work colleagues was told that was what she had to do when she wanted to discuss more than one thing.

message 825: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Our surgery operates the one issue per appointment rule, my friend asked the doctor to look at a mole when she was there for something else and was told to make another appointment. Crazy!

message 826: by Kay (Golden Girl) (new)

Kay (Golden Girl) | 2193 comments Yes my surgery is the same, one issue per appointment and it's for ten minutes, can't even explain the problem in ten minutes. Also there never is 2 or 3appointments together and need to wait about three weeks to get another appointment.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments I'm very lucky, we have open surgery in the morning, have had to wait hours before now but better than weeks! We are supposed to have 10 minute slots but my doctor is notorious for being late, it's not unusual to wait half an hour for your appointment, can be annoying as sometimes the chemist has then closed!

message 828: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments Philip (sarah) wrote: "Our surgery operates the one issue per appointment rule, my friend asked the doctor to look at a mole when she was there for something else and was told to make another appointment. Crazy!"

That's just ridiculous! I can't believe any Dr's working one issue at a time would cause anything but chaos. no one should be rushed when they see their Dr and if it means others have to wait a while longer then so be it because at some point we will all need our Doctors attention for more than 10 minutes.

message 829: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (last edited Feb 06, 2016 05:50AM) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Yes and a few years ago they advocated a holistic approach, I feel sorry for a doctor trying to diagnose a complex patient's needs from drugs and drabs of information. I'd certainly need to know all of the history.

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments My doctors do ten minute slots normally but if you think you'll need longer I think they'll make arrangements for that if you ask.
I'm usually in and out in less than five minutes. I think I've only been in longer once 'cos my doctor wanted a second opinion on something and got in one of the other doctors as it was one of his specialities.
The doctors at my surgery are pretty good but I prefer to see the older ones as they seem to know what they're doing more. The younger one has to look up my condition on the internet, or as I said before, call in another doctor.

message 831: by Elle (last edited Feb 06, 2016 07:07AM) (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments You know Vanessa I've had the complete opposite experience. Old doctors, with the very big exception of my own personal paediatrician (long story), have been rubbish for me. All the great appointments I've had over the years have always been with younger doctors willing to listen. I find older doctors brush me off a lot, especially given that a lot of my appointments are based on my mental health etc.

message 832: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments In my opinion too much time is wasted by health professionals doing the same job, a few years ago I was asked to attend on 3
separate occasions within a 6 week period for medication review, blood pressure review and asthma assessment.
I had my blood pressure checked at each appointment. I suggested one appointment would have been enough and it wasn't appreciated.
My work involves assessing practice and providing training for support workers in surgeries and hospitals but initiating change is never easy.

Luckily my receptionists are always happy when I suggest combining things.

My neighbours lodger went for a pre op this morning for an operation on wed, they realised at 2 pm that there is a strike on wed so had to rearrange!

message 834: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments There is no wonder that the surgeries are always full if you have to make so many appointments Sarah. Our receptionists seem to spend most of their time shouting across the room to each other about how to use the computer systems.

That's not nice Desley, getting yourself all geared up only to o have it moved back. Hope it gets sorted soon.

I shouldn't moan really as Holly should have had her operation today instead of a two weeks ago, but that was at the children's and it seems like a different health care system there.

message 835: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I got dealt with by the childrens back home Anita and I completely agree. Any of my appointments regarding my existing medical issues were always handled so much better than any new ones that would have to be then dealt with via normal doctors etc.

message 836: by Kay (Golden Girl) (new)

Kay (Golden Girl) | 2193 comments IGet yearly appointments 1 for asthma clinic and another for heart clinic both done by same nurse ,they didn't like when I suggested I had both done at same time ,not that they do much anyway ,just ask stupid questions and do blood pressure ,however I have at last persuaded the them to do both together and it only uses up the time it takes for one clinic ,no wonder the NHS has no money ----rant over lol !!

message 837: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments I think we are all ranting with you Kay, It does seem so silly when they all complain that there isn't enough time or money available and they waste so much of, not only their time but yours too.

Nothing but admiration for the Children's Elle and I'm sure that Kay knows that better than the rest of us.

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments The few occasions I've been to see my GPs at my new surgery, they've been lovely but I didn't particularly like the old one, I found a lot of them rather dismissive in nature. But I won't get started on GPs in general, I know there are some fantastic ones but we tend not to see much of them!

message 839: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments Like all walks of life Claire there are good and bad. In fact the only health professionals I have never heard complaints about is your profession, only ever heard words of praise and gratitude.

Thanks Anita, it's really nice to hear that. Unfortunately, we're not completely immune from it, the papers in particular like to pick up perceived faults (whether they're valid or not).

message 841: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments I'm sure you aren't Claire but I personally have never heard any complaints and when you look how many people complain about other health workers then that a pretty good record believe me.

Anita | 3313 comments Hugs needed please, I know it's silly but my car has broken and I'm feeling very low. I really should pull myself together but I'm so tired and just need a little boost.
Thanks all

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Big hug for you, Anita. So sorry to hear you're having problems with it. There are few things more vexing than a car that won't move.

Best group in the world for love and support

That's it exactly Jim, we can all do without extra problems.

It's one long problem Geoff, I'll try not to be grumpy by Wednesday.

Thanks Lisa, Roy will sort it, he always does but this one isn't going to be sorted quickly at all and he refused to pay the £8000 for Land Rover to fix it when it's a job he can do himself.

Listen to me what a silly old fool I am. My SIL has arranged a life so I can use his car, how sweet is that. I will be ok as soon as I stop feeling sorry for myself. ( nots to self, get a grip ! )
