Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 228 comments Yay,Finally! I'm doubly curious coz this my first Psmith novel. He was your alter-ego for a long time.

message 152: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 2936 comments I had a huge crush on him in my formative years. Now a bit scared that I may dislike him.

(and he was the main reason that I never considered mortal boys seriously :-D )

Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 228 comments Haha.. I can see that.Reading Wodehouse in your teens.Infact, after beginning to read Wodehouse I'm not considering anything in real life seriously, even the select few things which I used to get worked up about previously :) It's amazing how his sunny outlook invaded me.. I'm seriously addicted!

message 154: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 2936 comments Yes, totally. I used to envy Bertie during my exams.

message 155: by Vimal (new)

Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 228 comments Started :) After Lord Elmsworth stole the initial show, now I've got introduced to Psmith through his strange advertisement

message 156: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 2936 comments I started too. :-)

message 157: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 272 comments I am at about 18% . This one is full of happenings. But I feel some similarities with something fresh.

message 158: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 2936 comments I have stalled for thr time being at 15%. Wodehouse books resemble each other a lot.

message 159: by Vimal (new)

Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 228 comments Yes, the plot is very similar to Something Fresh and at some places even identical.. But nevertheless I'm able to breeze through due to his evergreen prose :) At the half way stage now

message 160: by Vimal (last edited Dec 18, 2015 07:56AM) (new)

Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 228 comments But one thing I'm disappointed about in this book is there seems to be a significant plot-hole near the half way mark :(

message 161: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 2936 comments Let me see whether i can spot it

message 162: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 2936 comments PSmith, Eve, Clarkson, Employment bureau - I am thoroughly relishing this book.
Can't control my laughter, and am lucky that I am alone at home. :-)

message 163: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 2936 comments Herbert, the Turn of. :-D :-D :-D

Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 228 comments Laughing my way up through it.. At 80% now :D

message 166: by Vimal (new)

Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 228 comments I say, both Lord Elmsworth and his son Hon Freddie absolutely rock this book :)

message 167: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 2936 comments Am at 35% . Thoroughly enjoying. Have to attend a charitable musical concert. But scared to read this one there. When everybody is seriously enjoying Carnatic music and suchlike, I will be howling like a hyena. :-P

message 168: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 2936 comments I understand the plot hole
is it
(view spoiler)

message 169: by Vimal (new)

Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 228 comments Haha.. There we go.. Carnatic music faces a stern test in holding one's attention!

message 170: by Vimal (new)

Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 228 comments No Smitha.. (view spoiler)

message 171: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 2936 comments Got introduced, but didnt notice. :-(

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 2936 comments Yes. Completed 30% of the book at the concert. Now am at 60%. B-)

Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 228 comments No, that part is not resolved later.
(view spoiler)

message 174: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 2936 comments Oooh. Yess

Hats off to you

message 175: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 2936 comments Finished the book. It was hilarious. Don't remember laughing out this much in recent years. Full 5 stars from me.

message 176: by Vimal (new)

Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 228 comments Cool.. Am done too.. It surely was more hilarious than Blandings #1 :)

message 177: by Vimal (new)

Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 228 comments @Rebecca.. How are you finding it?

message 178: by Rebecca (new)

message 179: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 272 comments Yay! I finished. It was hilarious! Now I know why you had a crush on him Syl.

Yes, especially at that impreasionable age of 14 or so. :-P

Haha, just enough brains to spoil some fun that I got out of a good, funny read.

message 183: by Vimal (new)

Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 228 comments Sooooooo.. whats the next one.
Shall we get into Jeeves again, since its been a while now?

message 184: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 272 comments Yes Jeeves it will be. Which one. ?

message 185: by Vimal (last edited Dec 30, 2015 07:51PM) (new)

Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 228 comments Cool. I'm good for anything among Carry on Jeeves/Mating Season/Code of Woosters. I remember Aparna wanting to read Mating season, so may be we'll leave it for the time after she returns. So if you have Carry on Jeeves or Code of Woosters, we can start with any one of those.

message 186: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 272 comments Sorry Vimal I dont have any of those. But I have Right ho Jeeves, My man Jeeves , Much obliged Jeeves , Jeeves in the offing and keep a stiff upper lip Jeeves. Will my man Jeeves do?

message 187: by Vimal (new)

Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 228 comments That'll surely do. It's the first one in the series, so should be extra-interesting. Starting the year with Jeeves and Bertie :)

message 188: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 2936 comments i too shall try to read, but not sure as already 6 books are in queue.

message 189: by Vimal (new)

Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 228 comments @Smitha, you just have to start it. Then Wodehouse will determine when you should start with the other 6 :)

message 190: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 272 comments When are we starting. ?

message 191: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 2936 comments Vimal, nice plan. Wodehouse IS selfish. Will not allow me to resume others. :-P

message 192: by Girish (new)

Girish (kaapipaste) | 51 comments Picked up a Jeeves omnibus on new year and found this thread thanks to Vimal! All set to explore more PGW this year :D

message 193: by Vimal (new)

Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 228 comments Awesome Girish. Does your Omnibus contain all 18 Jeeves, or a select few?

message 194: by Vimal (new)

Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 228 comments Started My Man Jeeves and completed 6 out of 8. Found some stories to contain an early prototype of Bertie called Reggie, and his valet Voules. As usual some of the stories have good plots and some have okish plots, but the humour content reigns supreme in all as usual :)

message 195: by Girish (new)

Girish (kaapipaste) | 51 comments Vimal wrote: "Awesome Girish. Does your Omnibus contain all 18 Jeeves, or a select few?"

This omnibus contains
* Jeeves and the Feudal Spirit
* Stiff Upper Lip, Jeeves
* Jeeves in the Offing

I have already read Right Ho, Jeeves and The Inimitable Jeeves.

message 196: by Vimal (new)

Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 228 comments Cool. Rebecca and I both have Jeeves in the offing.May be we'll join in and tick it off after My Man Jeeves.

message 197: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 272 comments I am at about 30 % and am loving this. I like Bertie and Jeeves best of all the Wodehouse we've read so far.

message 198: by Vimal (new)

Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 228 comments I too plead guilty to a slight bias towards the Bertie-Jeeves combo, despite loving the Blandings series so much :)

message 199: by Vimal (new)

Vimal Thiagarajan (veeti) | 228 comments The eighth story is the funniest of the whole lot. 4-7 are moderate.

message 200: by Girish (new)

Girish (kaapipaste) | 51 comments I have neither tried blandings nor Psmith (don't know if they are the same). I like Jeeves-Bertie so far.
Read this book called Ukridge which had a Bertie like character subjected to atrocities of Mr.Ukridge
