I've got a dozen in my group, but it depends on what you want to do with the group. Assigning people to different jobs is a good idea so no one gets overwhelmed.

message 52: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Scott | 710 comments Mod
Thanks for weighing in, Emma!

Emma Jaye | 31 comments Mod
No problem.
I took over from the last main mod of my group. If Jan wants to step down, she will need to make the new people 'mods' and then one of the new people will have to 'de-mod' her and the original mod. You can't 'un-mod' yourself.
If you want someone to keep an eye on the odd thread, perhaps organise review requests as that's my area of expertise, I'd be happy to help. Perhaps something similar to https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
but involving readers as well as authors.

That would be great! I think people probably want to talk about what they're reading now, I like the review requests idea, I know we talk about TV shows and movies over on the Space Opera Group. What else? Shall we ask Jan to make us mods for now? And see if we can get some more people to volunteer? Because you and I are only available to handle certain parts and/or amounts of time...

I'll probably regret this, but go for it. if you don't try, you don't know what'll happen. A bit like self publishing.

message 56: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Scott | 710 comments Mod
I feel exactly the same LOL. I don't need another thing to do right now! But I hate to see the Group just wither away when there's still interest.

message 57: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Scott | 710 comments Mod
OK, you can make me a Mod and I believe Emma has also agreed to be a Mod. We still need some more people though as neither she nor I can do this fulltime, or do ALL the Things.

KJ Van Houten | 237 comments Mod
You can add me as a mod also.i have an erratic schedule so done weeks Ivan be here a lot, others not so much, but wiling to give it a go. This group is the main reason I'm on GR any more already.

message 59: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Scott | 710 comments Mod
Thanks KJ! Yes, me too, I mostly come into GR for this group as well.

I think its a good idea that we have a mix of readers and authors as mods. As much as I love reading, being an author does tend to skew my perspective a little.

message 61: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Scott | 710 comments Mod
Me too and I try very hard to be respectful of the reader viewpoint whenever I'm on GR.

message 62: by KJ (new)

KJ Van Houten | 237 comments Mod
I'm non author :-)

message 63: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Scott | 710 comments Mod
So we'll have a good balance! :)

message 64: by Jen (new)

Jen (jenniferl915) | 320 comments Wow! You girls are awesome! I've considered nominating myself as mod, but I am concerned that I will be overwhelmed with the other things going on in my life. However, I would like to help when I can. I don't work during the summer and have oodles of time to spare. During the school year, I am swamped, especially in the fall. The winter and spring seem to less busy for me. I have also just finished a graduate course of study, so I will have more time with no classes in addition to work and family. Let me know if you would like me to help moderate.

We were thinking the more of us Mods there were, the better, as far as workload on all of us and sheer ability to monitor the discussions. So if Jan gets back to us, I'd love to have you as a Mod too, with the understanding about your availability as you stated. I personally REALLY don't plan to undertake anything here that's going to demand too much time, since I have novels to write and other commitments, just want to keep it alive as a good place to talk SFR. Thanks!

message 66: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Scott | 710 comments Mod
You can make me the Mod, or me and Emma, Jen and KJ if you can appoint more than one. We'll unMod you - gently LOL! - and then move forward as we've been disscussing. Thanks!

Emma Jaye | 31 comments Mod
I have thirteen mods on my review group, although there is only room for 12 icons.
Jan seems to have gone silent again, so I think leaving this a week for her to get back to us is a good strategy. This group is already set up with members, discussion boards etc. it would be far easier to revamp this one that start from scratch.

message 68: by Jan (new)

Jan (janoda) | 226 comments I've made Veronica and Emma Mods, they should now be able to add any other people that want to help out as well.
I've removed myself as a mod.

I wish you all the best!

I'm not published (no idea if I ever will be), but I write as a hobby. Is this problematic? If it's fine let me know how I can help out.

message 70: by Jen (new)

Jen (jenniferl915) | 320 comments Thank you, Jan. Good luck to you!

message 71: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Scott | 710 comments Mod
All the best wishes to you as well! Thank you very much.

message 72: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 44 comments I think the first thing the new mods should do is get rid of the 4 year old challenge on the group's main page and then archive a lot of old threads with no posts in years and then start new ones. That will make the group look fresher.

I didn't volunteer to be a mod because I am going back to school and also read a wide variety of genres. But I do tend to participate in goodreads groups that are active.

message 73: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Scott | 710 comments Mod
I don't disagree at all, Mary. But we (the Mods) have got to get ourselves organized a bit first!

message 74: by KJ (new)

KJ Van Houten | 237 comments Mod
I also agree. I understand that Emma is doing some cleanup today -- give me a task and I'll help!

message 75: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 31 comments Mod
Have a think about what you'd like to see on the group, and start up a discussion thread.

message 76: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 44 comments I didn't mean right that second but that at least the old challenge should be removed as a higher priority. Even if it's just replaced with a "being remodeled" notice. Then if new people are coming to look or returning, they can see the group is being updated.

message 77: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 31 comments Mod
i was on it anyway Mary, don't worry.

message 78: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Scott | 710 comments Mod
I really appreciate everything you're doing, Emma! If you need me to do something particular, don't hesitate to let me know.

message 79: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 31 comments Mod
I'm feeling my way just like anyone else.
I think keeping the group alive by starting up new subjects for discussion would be the best way people can participate and help.

message 80: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Scott | 710 comments Mod
Got it!

message 81: by KJ (new)

KJ Van Houten | 237 comments Mod
Today is going to be a busy work day for me, but let me know if you need anything. If you message me, I'll get a notification on my phone.

message 82: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Scott | 710 comments Mod
Will do, thanks KJ!

message 83: by Jen (new)

Jen (jenniferl915) | 320 comments Same for me, I am happy to help where I can. Please keep in mind that I'm a bit busy for the next month until the end of school. After that, I'll have more time to spend on clean-up and posts. If you wish to message me, I can be found on facebook under the name JL Jachal (also a member of the Scifi Romance group on facebook). Feel free to send me a message there or friend me.
