message 1: by Rianna (new) - added it

Rianna (riannablok) | 59 comments Hello!

I have this book at home:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8...
and the cover is not correct...

Could someone change it to
http://cache2.bdcdn.net/assets/images... ?

Thank you very much!

Ren | 688 comments It looks like that ISBN has been used for several different editions of the book with different covers.

Goodreads policy is to keep all published covers on the site, as users want to shelve the cover of the copy they have. Instead, we add an alternate-cover edition. See the author FAQ and this help topic for more information.

I have created an alternate edition here:

Ren | 688 comments Actually I have a dilemma. This edition of The Portrait of a Lady is the original one for Wordsworth Editions and carries an ISBN (#1):
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8...
An automatic import from 2007 gave it a blue cover.

In 2012, the following ACE was created with a black cover (#2):
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

However in January 2013 another automatic import replaced the blue cover of #1 with the black cover. So later in 2013 someone else created an ACE for the blue cover (#3):
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

I'm assuming either #2 needs to be merged with #1, or the cover change for #1 needs to be reverted and then #3 needs to be merged with #1, but I'm not sure which. Any tips from experienced librarians?

Z-squared | 8575 comments you need to walk back all the changes that were against policy. it sounds like the blue cover is the one that keeps the ISBN, and the ace that was created later in 2013 needs to be merged with it.

Ren | 688 comments Thank you Z-squared, I have done so. :)

Lorna Fergusson (lorna_fergusson) | 3 comments My novel The Chase was originally published by Bloomsbury in hardback in 1999, in paperback in 2000. I later retrieved my rights and self-published last year. However, the cover that comes up first when you go to the book is for the out-of-print Bloomsbury paperback (0747552916/ ISBN13: 9780747552918) which now gives a false impression. I would like the cover that comes up first and is linked to, to be the new paperback version (orange-toned, trees), published by Fictionfire Press June 12th - the ISBNS for this are 0957647417/ 9780957647411. I would really appreciate some help with this as I have no idea how to change this myself. Lorna Fergusson.

Ren | 688 comments Lorna, librarians can't change the default edition of a book.
As the author, you have the ability to change which edition of the book is the default, which will come up in searches by title and show on your author profile. See here how to set the default edition of a book.

Please don't post your request in a thread linked to a specific author/book. You can open a new thread next time.

Lorna Fergusson (lorna_fergusson) | 3 comments Thank you very much for this. I'll check out the link. I apologise for posting the request in the wrong place but last night I couldn't actually see where to open a new thread - I find Goodreads complex and opaque in its systems, I'm afraid.

Lorna Fergusson (lorna_fergusson) | 3 comments I've changed it now, so thanks very much for that link, Ren.
