Chris Pearce The anniversary of the Peterloo Massacre (see front cover of A Weaver's Web), Manchester, UK, is today, 16 August. The Peterloo Picnic has been held each year since 2007 to commemorate the event that occurred back in 1819. In 2015, it will be held outside the Manchester Central Conference Centre, 1-3pm. For more about the picnic and the massacre, see http://www.peterloomassacre.org/.

I wrote a guest post on Peterloo for Catherine Curzon and this was published on her site last Friday, 14 August. See http://www.madamegilflurt.com/2015/08....

Mike Leigh is making a film on Peterloo. The filming of Peterloo starts in 2017 and it is expected to be released in 2018 in plenty of time for the 200th anniversary of the massacre the following year. See http://www.theguardian.com/film/2015/.... Mike’s last film, Mr Turner, won two awards at the Cannes Film Festival and a number of other awards, and got four Oscar nominations.

I think the early 19th century was a fascinating time in history with the ordinary folk struggling to achieve better living and working conditions which were quite atrocious at the time.

Happy reading

Chris Pearce
