Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 11230 comments 20.7 - Shorter is Sweeter - Kimber's task: Celebrate the Sibs!

April 10 is National Siblings Day. To celebrate the sibs, read a series book that is the same number in the series as the number of siblings you have in your family of origin (or the family you claim right now). It is your choice whether you want to include adopted, deceased or step-siblings. For example, if you claim a brother and a sister, you would read #2 in any series. If you do not have siblings (you're an only child), read a standalone book (one that is not part of a series).

Required: Please state the number of siblings you are claiming in your post.

Andy Plonka (plonkaac) | 4207 comments So if I have only one sibling who is deceased I can choose to read either #1 in a series or a stand alone?

That sounds right, Andy. I wanted each person to decide where they felt like they stood in their current family situation. So - absolutely. #1 or a standalone. Happy reading!

If you have 2 siblings, that would be a great choice! I actually read that one myself some time ago. I remember really liking it! If you get to it, I hope you like it too!

It's great to have a big family, you are lucky! I am an only, but I had 5 children to ensure that they were never lonely like I always was. Not sure they appreciate my good intentions all the time...the fighting between them sometimes, geez! : )

There are so many series that go on and on. I usually have to read them all in order but I have found some you can read out of order without feeling lost. The Sue Grafton alphabet mysteries, the Death series by JD Robb and Harlan Coben's Myron Bolitar series are a few. Maybe look into one of those if you have trouble?

Hi Claire! If you have one sibling, you would read a #1 in series. So, if you read The Subtle Knife, you would want to find another place for that one since it is a #2 book.
Your # of siblings should equal the # series book you read. 1 sib = #1, 2 sibs = #2 and so on.

It appears that Goodreads does acknowledge this book as #7 in a series, so you are good! Happy reading!

KSMary | 1218 comments The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan would be OK, right since it is the First book in a series (1 sibling) and since it has been shelved as Childrens has 377 pages?

For the purpose of the task, The Lightning Thief works as it's #1 in a series and you have one sibling. As far as children's books/page #'s, etc - I copied the following directly from the SRC rules...

5. Books with the genre "childrens" or "kids" that are between 100 and 299 pages may only be used for 5, 10, and 15 point tasks unless they are excluded by Rule 4. Books with the genre “childrens” or "kids" on their main page may ONLY be used for tasks above 15 points IF they are at least 300 pages long.

As a task writer, I can't give the official okay on book lengths, etc...but by my interpretation of the wording of the rules I would say that you are fine. If you prefer a more official and concrete yes on that - perhaps try asking in the general questions link?

Sorry for the delay in reply! Happy reading!

KSMary | 1218 comments Thanks, Kim! I was interpreting the children's rule that way but wanted to make sure before I landed myself on the wall of shame. LOL
