I’m looking for beta readers for ‘The Plains of Kallanash’, an epic fantasy with a strong romantic element. There is some sexual content, but it’s not erotica. There’s a little profanity. Here’s the blurb:
Two husbands, two wives, one marriage. Mia is content to be a junior wife, taking care of the day-to-day chores of ruling a Karninghold and dreaming of one day catching the eye of the lead husband. Hurst is the junior husband, a talented Skirmisher frustrated by his lack of power and dreaming that one day he and Mia will be a real part of this marriage. But when Mia’s co-wife mysteriously dies, her orderly life begins to unravel and she finds herself in conflict with the powerful Servants of the Gods, a conflict she can’t possibly win. Hurst will do anything to help her, but first he must leave behind the make-believe of formal skirmishes, and become a real war-leader for the highest stakes of all.
The first third of the book has been thoroughly critiqued on Scribophile, and the rest polished to a similar standard, so it’s pretty clean. I will be getting professional proofreading later, so I’m only looking for broad reader opinions, not structural or line editing. I do want honest feedback, though; I need to know what doesn’t work, and I won’t throw a hissy-fit at negative comments. My deadline is mid-June.
Here’s the snag: it’s epic in size as well as genre - 220k words. On the plus side, it’s a light, easy read. As this is such a large book, I’ll be happy to pay something for feedback.
The first few chapters are posted on my website, so you can see if you like it or not: http://paulinemross.co.uk/
If you’re interested, PM me with your email address, what you charge and your preferred format.
