Good that. There are some YA books out there that should be rated R for the romance.

message 152: by Grace (new) - rated it 5 stars

Grace Yup.
Although, why does NOBODY ask ANYBODY about the books BEFORE they read it?!
For a while, I had to BEG my mom to read Eclipse.
After I got to, the part, I realized why she said no.
So I didn't read Breaking Dawn for a LONG time after.
And, did you know, In Twilight, all the reasons for an abusive relationship are USED for Bella and Edward's?
I don't even know if I COULD marry the first person I fall in love with.
Riordan's WAY off. But I LOVE HoO....

Allison And don't even get me started on Fifty Shades of Gray. It was the first book my parents told me not to read when I went into Junior High. I'll probably get grounded if I even pick it up. Not that I want to pick it up. I might get some of the grossness on me.

message 154: by Grace (new) - rated it 5 stars

Grace OMG yes.
I will NEVER read it.
Unless I'm dying and it's the only book I can reach.
THEN maybe.

Allison Even then I wouldn't read it. I don't want my precious brain cells to turn to mush.

Allison Because I like my precious brain cells.

message 157: by Grace (new) - rated it 5 stars

Grace Yeah.
But I want the last thing I do... to be reading. Not crying over some stupid sickness I have, no, no.
Reading.

Allison Then read this!!!

*Shoves Maze Runner, Michael Vey, 13th Reality, Steelheart, Matched, and Ranger's Apprentice in your face*

I still cry during both is that normal?

Allison I also cried during a sad part on My Little Pony. I don't think that's normal.

Zia was a great character. And frankly, a relief after having Sadie *shudder*. She could be eliminated and the plot would've been fine, in my opinion, but still she was essential. She added more color and I repeat, a relief after Sadie *more shudder*.

message 168: by Bookiemonster (new)

Bookiemonster I liked zia tbh, and she was pretty necessary, seeing as she was a ra avatar and a nephthys avatar.

But yes, now that you say it, walubis, that is walts new name, is pretty creepy.

Oh. Then I fully agree with you.
Then again though, isn't all romance in these sorts of stories unnecessary?

"Incapable of writing platonic relationships"
That's it. My entire experience with the KC and PJO summed up in one sentence. It's not really a bad thing, but it does get annoying.

Anyone else thinking PJO would have been more interesting if Percy didn't have a romantic interest?

I don't feel it impacted PJO that badly, because it was the first time, but in Kane and HoO it becomes repetitive and clichéd.

message 174: by Bookiemonster (new)

Bookiemonster I think that at the start of the lightning thief, friendships were more pronounced, and good. Grover, luke, Tyson, very good examples of friendship. Then we started to get a glimpse of pairing up, Clarisse with chris, silena with beckendorf, BUT SHE loves Luke??? And that was the start of this downturn.

Oh.
The Luke thing. I almost forgot about Annabeth's Luke thing.
I honestly didn't mind, or at least, I wouldn't have had if it was a "childish-crush-totally-got-over-it-so-long-ago" thing.

But I felt it was too...I dunno. Emphasized? Is that the right word?

Allison That's the right word.

Bookiemonster high fives all around!!!

Will Solace SOMEONE JOINED THE PETITION TO STOP AUTHORS FROM WRITING ABOUT GIRLS WHO'S LIVES CHANGE WHEN THEY MEET A BOY. I MEAN SERIOUSLY THIS IS THE ONLY TYPE OF BOOK I WANT TO READ/WRITE:

"She knew he was perfect as soon as she saw him. His face. His hair. His body. Everything was perfect. She had finally met him. The first boys he would kill."

Allison Why did I look up Blood of Olympus spoilers about Nico...?

message 185: by Lani (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lani It definitely has more romance than the Percy Jackson series, but I think it still has a nice balance between love interests and action. Personally I think it adds to the story.

message 186: by Lauren (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lauren I think it adds to the story. The Nico thing I admit was a little surprising. The romances in this series isn't insta love though because they have all been friends for a while. That's the beauty of Riordens writing

Cleopatraselene2 I felt like the Jason/Percy friendship was just made to make them stop fighting. I think they should have stayed neutral, and that Rick Riordan should have concentrated more on the Leo/Jason friendship. It seemed like in order for Jason and Percy to become friends, Jason had to change to be more like Percy. I think Jason and Leo were really good friends in the Lost Hero because Jason was the serious and responsible leader and Leo was the funny one who kept everybody upbeat. I wanted Rick Riordan to develop their friendship.

Yeah but guys, you don't want to go the other extreme either.

Overly "tough" girls who boys can never get the better of are just as hideous. (AND over used). Girls can have ANY personality, not just two...

message 189: by [deleted user] (last edited Jan 20, 2015 08:48PM) (new)

Krystal,
I think it would help if he gave his characters actual personalities. Then it would feel more like they interacted and had actual relationships.
Instead he just *tells* us what their personalities are by making their friends repeat it over and over in so many ways. Then they all end up acting the same, with the same sense of sarcastic humor. It always sounds like the same person is talking. This is why their relationships have little to no depth, and the romance is a mess.

message 190: by Garima (last edited Jan 20, 2015 10:04PM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Garima The only couple I actually like is Percy and Annabeth, and that's because I'm a huge fan of the previous series.

I agree that part of the problem is the lack of personality, so since I already know Percy and Annabeth's personality it makes it a bit more enjoyable for me. That being said, I'm not sure if I would feel the same way about them had I not read PJO.

I definitely understand where you're coming from. While I don't mind the Percabeth fluffiness, I preferred the subtle romance of the original series.

message 191: by ALYSSA (new)

ALYSSA HORNER I want more Annabeth’s pov because everyone says how she so smart. But we don’t see how Annabeth’s brains work. And more. Seriously Rick! You more Annabeth pov instead of Percy’s pov. I get you want Percy’s a lot but why Annabeth’s. IS THAT SO HARD???!!!
