Kyla looked up at him. "Sorry. I- uh. I talk to myself a lot." She said quietly.
"No it's fine." He looked through his case again.
Kyla looked back at her laptop, making sure she saved what she typed.
Kyla looked over at him. She closed her laptop and put it in her backpack.
He looked over at her. "How long have you been hunting alone?"
"Almost a year.. You?" She asked quietly. Kyla bit her lip, realizing she didn't know his name.
"I've been hunting for ten years now. Never had a partner." He said
"Wow.. I've only hunted four years total.." Kyla replied. "Ten years, so I'm gonna guess you started hunting when you were a teenager?"
He nodded and sat in a chair. "I started after my dad was killed on a hunt. I killed the thing that killed him. I never stopped since then."
Kyla nodded. She bit her lip, unsure of what to say next.
"18th birthday. My brother and I went out together to like celebrate. That night, something attacked his girlfriend. He already had been hunting before that and he had me come hunt that creature down with him. Then afterwards, I chose to stick with it." Kyla shrugged.
"Wow. Do you mind if I ask…how you lost your brother?" He asked
"We were out in some little town, hunting a demon, he had snuck out one night, planning on doing some more research on that demon. It went after him and that was the end, well pretty much." Kyla replied. She ran a hand through her hair.
"Yes." Kyla bit her lip, thinking about it.
"Was your brother possessed?" He asked
Kyla nodded. She didn't trust her voice to speak without cracking.
"Don't be. It's okay. That was a while ago." Kyla said quietly.
"You had to kill your brother." He said
"Yeah. I know." Kyla responded, looking at him.
He looked up at her. "How did you kill him?"
"Sorry. I'd rather not talk about that.." She said quietly. Kyla didn't want to talk about how she'd killed her own brother.
"It's fine. That's just a tough subject for me." Kyla shrugged.
Kyla bit her lip. She tried to figure out what to say.
"Yeah.. I guess." Kyla shrugged and stood up.
He came back to her room when he was ready.
Kyla put her backpack on and made sure she had everything.
"By the way, what's your name?" He asked
"Hello Kyla, I'm Jason." He walked to his car.
"Nice to meet you." Kyla said. She followed him.
He opened the passenger door for her.
"Thank you." Kyla smiled faintly, getting in the car. She set her backpack on the floor in front of her.
He smiled back. "Welcome." He got in and put his bag next to hers.
