Ce | 11 comments Wit (aka Hoid), what do you think is his story? I think he is a messenger of the coming of Nightwatcher!

message 2: by Kenneth (new)

Kenneth Geary (KagedBooks) (kagedbooks) | 118 comments Hoid's story is so much bigger than that and is one of the biggest mysteries of The Cosmere not just Roshar.

message 3: by Obaid (new)

Obaid Haroon | 64 comments Oh yeah Wit is a mystery unto himself. Been on every cosmere planet (so far) and it seems he was there when the 16 shards came into being.

message 4: by Ce (new)

Ce | 11 comments I am still reading through the Mistborn series. I enjoy The Stormlight more. but I have forgotten who he went by in the other books anyway.

message 5: by Luke (new)

Luke | 132 comments Hoid is the name he usually uses. He has several, but I'd have to go check 17S to remember what they are.

He appears twice in the Mistborn trilogy.

message 6: by Obaid (new)

Obaid Haroon | 64 comments I'm pretty sure it was all three wasn't it?

message 7: by Luke (new)

Luke | 132 comments I know of at least the first and third books where they named him directly. I don't know about the second book.

message 8: by Kenneth (new)

Kenneth Geary (KagedBooks) (kagedbooks) | 118 comments In the second book (view spoiler)

message 9: by Blake (new)

Blake Schreckhise | 7 comments I think I've heard Brandon Sanderson say that Hoid has been in all if his novels. But I can't remember him in all of them...

message 10: by Luke (last edited Apr 14, 2014 02:03PM) (new)

Luke | 132 comments He's in all the Cosmere novels. The Rithmatist, Steelheart, The Alcatraz books, Legion, and Infinity Blade are not Cosmere books so you won't find him there.

In the SA books he's Wit obviously.

In Warbreaker he's a storyteller.

In Elantris he's a beggar.

In Mistborn he's an informant and he helps Vin in that one city in the second one, and I can't remember the last place.

In Alloy of Law he's at a party, but none of the characters talk to him directly. It's very easy to miss.

Japhia | 86 comments The second in mistborn was the guy in Terris. Who told the Elend's troops not to return to the city.

message 12: by Michael (new)

Michael (michaeldixon) | 118 comments I'm interested in world hopping. I've read the 17ths shard stuff and am going back through books to find see if I can find him. With the exception of Vasher, I miss the world hoppers the first time around. Any tips for finding Hoid and others the first time through?

message 13: by Japhia (new)

Japhia | 86 comments What are hoid's powers? In mistborn: hero of ages how did he get the door down to the well open?

message 14: by Michael (new)

Michael (michaeldixon) | 118 comments I doubt we know all that he can do, but he can travel fast as part of worldhopping. Honestly though, I don't know how that works. Knowing Sanderson, however, there is likely a balance to this power that I'm interested to learn about. Otherwise he could just pop around willy-nilly.

This wiki page discusses Hoid including his abilities. http://coppermind.net/wiki/Hoid

message 15: by Japhia (new)

Japhia | 86 comments If Hoid used the well of ascension to worldhop. Was he stuck after vin absorbed the well?

Wouldn't Hoid have taken an allomancy bead to gain allomantic powers? I would have.

ah but who said he didn't take a bead?...

Also, he was gone by the time Vin entered the well.

Taylor | 8 comments Hoid used the well?

message 18: by Michael (new)

Michael (michaeldixon) | 118 comments No, he didn't use the well, but he did visit the well. He took a bead of Lerasium which can makes someone mistborn. I don't know what he has done with it.

message 19: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 8 comments Ah okay thanks

message 20: by Japhia (new)

Japhia | 86 comments Ah ok. I thought he used the well to get to that world. I'm not sure what it was called.

message 22: by Kenneth (new)

Kenneth Geary (KagedBooks) (kagedbooks) | 118 comments He for sure took a bead we just don't know if he used it. He's been collecting powers from each of the worlds. I'm we know he's reached the second heightening of BioChromatic Breath and possibly higher which could explain his long life

message 23: by Joel (last edited Jan 13, 2015 06:13AM) (new)

Joel Mr. Sanderson has said that he might eventually release a short story or novella explaining what Hoid was doing during the Mistborn series on that world. But I wouldn't hope for it soon. Also, if you didn't know this either, Mr. Sanderson is planning on writing Hoid's complete story, but it won't come out until all ten books of Stormlight are done.

message 24: by Orhan (new)

Orhan Capas | 7 comments I believe Brandon Sanderson said that Hoid is the most powerfull non-shard being in the cosmere. There was an attempt to write Hoid story as Liar of Parthinel but he didn't continue on that much.

I believe he is most active on Roshar. That world is special for him since his archenemy had some dealings there. Roshar is a special case in Cosmere too.
