Andrea | 10 comments Hello everyone,

I''m happy to have stumbled upon this group and am looking forward to some good discussions, providing I a: get the nerve up to actually post my views and b: find time in my overly busy schedule.

Having grown up and lived in Singapore, now living in Switzerland, I do consider myself International but have very much enjoyed tending to my roots over the last 15years here in the Kanton of Zuerich. 37 year old Cis Gay Female, my partner and I have recently gotten engaged. We live in a village, surrounded by her Italian familly, with our cats, dog and two horses. I have a degree in Anthropology (my speciality was comparitive cognition) - for those of you in the US, you call what I studied Primatology - and curently work as an Animal Trainer and Presentator at the Zuerich Zoo.

My reading interests are very broad, as you'll find if you browse my GR profile. For the pourposes of this group, a strong interest of mine is the theme of discrimination and belonging both in terms of how individuals see themselves and others as well as how societies and groups view others and determine membership. Race, sex, gender and their intersections, particularly in terms of (this isn't going to come as a great surprise) female and feminist perspectives, grab my interest. Personally I also like to reflect on areas where I myself have not formed a clear opinion or, unsavoury truth be told, I myself am guilty of unreflected discrimination.

So, again, Hello everyone - hope to read you and exchange ideas in the near future.

Andrea

Nancy | 2838 comments Welcome, Andrea!

At 52 years of age, there are still some areas that are a little gray for me and I don't have a clear opinion one way or the other.

Andrea | 10 comments *lol* point taken. You're probably quite right - that will be some of the 15 years between us for that lesson, I reckon.

iltatee Hi Andrea!

Nice to "meet" you. :) I lived in Seitzerland for a little while, as a child, but can't remeber much about it, I was only four hen we moved back to Finland.

Would it be okay if I added you here in GoodReads?

Andrea | 10 comments Hi Katja,

Thanks for asking - go ahead and add me :-) You are one step ahead of me at any rate - I've not been to Finland yet! Happy reading!

Christine Malec | 3 comments Hi: My name is Christine; I live in Toronto, Canada. I was happy to find this group. I don't have a lot of experience reading books with queer characters, but it's something I'm interested in, particularly in historical terms. I'm curious about how queer people coped with social pressures and influences that were different from the ones I'm used to. BTW, if I'm in digest mode for other groups, does that mean I am for this one? I haven't gotten messages, but I don't know how much traffic's on this group generally: thanks.

I'm not sure what the group default is, but you can change settings individually for each group by editing your profile and go to the emails tab.

The traffic's been light here lately. Maybe people are thinking about vacations, or they were eaten by zombies?

I was threatened by zombies it's true, but I started reading aloud from Charles Dickens, and they all fled in horror without bothering to add me to the list of undead: thank Goddess for classic literature!
