Lol I've been crying too, but I'm an emotional basket case right now. Lol

I'm just do sad that (view spoiler)[ her mother of all people treated her the way she did. And how no one seemed to care what a horrific thing it is that happened to her. No compassion! (hide spoiler)]

I know. Totally agree with you. I guess (view spoiler)[ because of the time and back then when things like that happened, it brought shame to the family. Still as a mother, she should not have done that to Judith. (hide spoiler)]

OMG! Okay, Finished BOOK TWO and its ending is so sad!!!

I was so excited for Judith when (view spoiler)[ Lucas "came calling" but it wasn't what she thought. She so upset she's planning to go live in the colonel's place? Ugh!! "It's enough to know I don't matter to anyone else in the world...I'll keep my promise to the dead man...I'll be rid of Mother's contempt..." Brought to tears again! (hide spoiler)]

I only finished BOOK TWO. There are FOUR BOOKS. I am 56% completely done. Lol

finished book 1. The problem when rereading an emotional book is I know when it's going to break my heart :(

Sorry I didn't post last night but I had SO much to do, plus I took a 2 hour nap after work. LOL

I was so (view spoiler)[happy that Lucas actually did love Judith and that he'd loved her probably as long as she'd loved him. He didn't care about her tongue or even if she'd been "tainted" by another man's forcing himself on her. He loved her unconditionally. (hide spoiler)]

The biggest surprise to me was that (view spoiler)[Lucas's father wasn't the one to kidnap her and that he saved her life. But WHY cut her tongue? I didn't totally forgive him! I was especially happy for Lucas's sake that his dad didn't rape or kidnap Judith. (hide spoiler)]

One of the biggest human (view spoiler)[faults to come out is that of cruelty! Who can be the first one to throw a stone? Who has not sinned? The townspeople (and Judith's mother) were SO quick to be cruel and find fault with Judith. Then when she and Lucas were put on the pillory and even the kids were cruel and so quick and desirous to throw things at them. The human race can be so "evil." (hide spoiler)]

I didn't like the way they treated Judith because she didn't do anything wrong or hurt anyone :( She was the victim, but they treated her like she was a criminal.
