The Circus in Winter called to mind The Queen of the Air, which is a biography about the real-life flying Jennie Dixianna, Leitzel (the photo used before that story is of Leitzel). The actual person was fascinating, and the fictional version couldn't compare. It also bothered me, because Ms. Day minimized the skill of Leitzel's talent.
Circus in Winter also reminded me of Olive Kitteridge, which I loved (and is superior to Circus, but that's okay). I liked the use of individual stories to give multiple impressions of the town.
Excellent comments you two. I didn't know there was another book about Jennie "The Queen of the Air." Thanks for sharing - something to look into.
Ashley, I've appreciated your referral of Olive Kitterage many times. I really enjoyed that book! And I SOOOO agree that it is superior to Circus.

Sometimes it reminded me of Water for Elephants but just a little. There wasn't much about the circus. Though I did keep thinking about Half Broke Horses because of Jennie reminded me of Lily. I guess I better read Olive Kitteridge! :)
