ABANDONED. about a serial killer thats put to death and apparantly comes back from the dead to carry on killing

Hi I read this book a while ago and completely forgot the book's title, the author as well as the character names. what i do remember is it starts with a serial killer, he's been caught and is put to death with his last words being "this is only the beginning". after a short while the killings start again as if the murderer has come back from the dead to carry on. The cop who arrested him (her husband and child were murdered but i cant remember how that fits in to the story) also witnessed his death, its her that the murderer is tormenting and eventually frames for the following carnage.

I will try to answer any questions regarding the book and will post any other details that might help if and when i remember them. do know what happens in the end but i don't want to spoil it if any one else fancys reading it if the title is found.

Any help would be good as i really fancy reading it again.

Matt, do you recall if this is straight crime mystery/thriller? As opposed to horror or even romantic suspense?

i read it about 4 maybe 5 years ago and it was based in america by the coast (really not helpful i know)she lives in the guest house set back from the main house, because the husband was rich when he died and the house is to big just for her.

ok so i'll put a bit more...

(view spoiler)[ she ends up being suspended due to the framing and goes on the run. the cop that has it in for her, (because he thinks she killed her husband for his money before the dead murderer starts up again) tracks her down at a shopping center (mall) and is about to arrest her and is killed by the murderer.

also the ending is... it ends up being the husbands brother who escaped a mental ward years ago and befriends the original serial killer (view spoiler)[
