Kaja Kałbukowska | 4 comments Hi, I've read about Charles De Lint who appears to be writing UF and I was wondering if you know any UF story by him with strong Celtic motives?

Leiah Cooper (leiahingolden) | 49 comments Hi, Kaja. Charles writes with strong Celtic motives, but he also writes with a strong Native American motive in many of his books.

I am spoiled - I found him back when he first started writing and publishing in 1984 with Moonheart by Charles de Lint - it is still one of my favorite books of all time. It combines Celtic and Native American, which I really admire and enjoy, as does The Dreaming Place (Newford, #2) by Charles de Lint another favorite.

His full "Newford" series (you MUST read all these - they are AMAZING!) Should be read in this order:
Dreams Underfoot (collection)
The Dreaming Place (young adult novel)
*A Whisper To A Scream (originally credited to “Samuel M. Key”)
*I’ll Be Watching You (originally credited to “Samuel M. Key”)
Memory And Dream (novel)
The Ivory And The Horn (collection)
Trader (novel)
Someplace To Be Flying (novel)
Moonlight And Vines (collection)
Forests Of The Heart (novel)
The Onion Girl (novel)
Seven Wild Sisters (short novel, also available in Tapping the Dream Tree)
Tapping the Dream Tree (collection)
Spirits in the Wires (novel)
Medicine Road (short novel)
The Blue Girl (young adult novel)
Widdershins (novel)
Make a Joyful Noise (chapbook)
The Hour Before Dawn (collection)
Old Man Crow (chapbook)
Little (Grrl) Lost (novel)
Promises to Keep (short novel)
Dingo (young adult novel)
Muse & Reverie (collection)

His full bibliography is at:

One of my favorites with a Celtic tone is Jack of Kinrowan Jack the Giant-Killer and Drink Down the Moon by Charles de Lint

Charles is a Celtic musician as well.

Truth? I would recommend anything by Charles De Lint - well, except The Onion Girl (Newford, #11) by Charles de Lint - really didn't like that one..... but that is a matter of personal taste and you may like it just fine.

Kaja Kałbukowska | 4 comments oh, God, thank you so much! I'm new to UF and I absolutely love it so far. Can any of those be regarded as short stories? I want to base my BA thesis on UF short stories with Celtic motives.

Leiah Cooper (leiahingolden) | 49 comments Grab "Dreams Underfoot" and go from there. My notes do cover which are anthologies, shorts, etc. Once you start De Lint, the stories are like chips - you can't read just one --- you have to read them ALL.....

good luck!
