Gisbelle | 25787 comments I have read Divergent, but not the other one. And frankly, I'm not interested in reading it either. I guess I won't be able to vote this round.

message 7: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments Now that everyone so far only voted for Divergent, it seals my decision :D Not gonna read The Ruined.

Trisha | 30284 comments I've read book 2 of the Ruined series, but not book 1

Glad you enjoyed Divergent. It was a wonderful series :)

message 16: by Joshua (new)

Joshua | 10 comments Still reading Ruined, but Divergent is one of the top 5 YA series of all time so it's hard to go up against it. Books 2 and 3 were less amazing but Divergent is right up there with The Hunger Games.

message 17: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments I totally agree with you, Joshua.

Joshua | 10 comments Struggling with Ruined.

edit: I get annoyed with books where the following sequence takes place:

1) something major happens in the story
2) they half explain it, but say "we'll talk later"
3) everyone goes to bed and the next chapter has nothing to do with what just happened.

If I met a 150 year old ghost and the lady that I lived with knew about it then I'd want answers immediately.

It's one thing if no one knows what's going on, but when everyone knows except one person and the author fails to explain it I find it annoying.

message 19: by Lynn (new)

Lynn LOL Joshua, I had a similar problem

My vote goes to Divergent, no contest

message 20: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new)

Trisha | 30284 comments Yikes! I'm feeling a little better about not wasting my time on Ruined....

Thank you Joshua. Your warning alone makes me so glad I didn't read it. Well explained, thank you!

Joshua | 10 comments Ruined was just too far fetched of a story.

Ray Bradbury (Fahrenheit 451) says a future dystopia is supposed to imply "If this goes on..." and we see a terrible outcome of hopefully what the future will (hopefully) never be because we as humans are very good at changing our future.

Divergent does this very well.
