In this tale of passion and obsession, Diana Bishop, a young scholar and a descendant of witches, discovers a long-lost and enchanted alchemical manuscript, Ashmole 782, deep in Oxford's Bodleian Library. Its reappearance summons a fantastical underworld, which she navigates with her leading man, vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont.

We will be reading the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness, starting with A Discovery of Witches, as our group SERIES PICK until the series is finished (or until group members express a firm desire to move on).

I loved this book. I had bought it in paperback and couldn't wait for the second book to come out and rushed to buy it in hardback as soon as it was in the bookshop. Although practically everything I read now is on kindle I will buy book 3 of this in hardback too to complete the set. A brilliant series so far!

I grab things in paperback if it's a YA/A crossover story and other readers in this community have rated it highly enough that I think it's something both I and my daughters will enjoy (such as Immortal Rules, Vampire Academy, House of Night, etc.) Otherwise if it's just for me I buy the .epub version for my Nook or borrow it for free from the library.
