Casceil | 2728 comments I reported my book back at message 43. I neglected to give myself the 5 points for book set in my city (Phoenix, AZ). This brings me to 11 points.

message 53: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 3422 comments I have a dumb question. (Am I famous for these yet?). Why do we track the points?

message 54: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19228 comments Not dumb. So I can give a high score badge and a glue stick badge as well as a participation badge. Some people like to aim to read a book to get the top score, or the bottom score. Others just like to read a book that fits and see what they end up with.

Sometimes we have challenges with no scores are well. Just depends on what Janice and I feel like at the time.

I read The Wood Is Sweet by John Clare.

Title: (sub-titles do not count)
4 pts – Is 4 words long

Bonus points:
2pts if there is a severe weather event in the book for World Meteorological Day.
While there is a poem about a summer storm, I'm not sure that really counts as a severe weather event.

Making a total of 5 points.

Not much more than a brief thunderstorm - we're not talking unusual event or deluge of biblical proportions here. I think it would be stretching it a bit far.

message 66: by Diane (new)

Diane | 90 comments I finished My Own Miraculous by Joshilyn Jackson on 3/29. The author lived in my actual town up until last year. The book, however, takes place elsehwere in the state (about an hour's drive away), so I can't count it as being set here. I don't think any of her books take place in my town. Most of them actually take place in other states.

Not big in the point department:

1 pts – Title begins with the letter M.

4 pts – Cover has green on it.

2 pts - The author is a female.

Bryndís (bryndisb) | 49 comments just finished my book, Karitas án titils (Karitas, no title) by Kristin Marja Baldursdóttir. I'm on my phone and don't know how to link to the book, I can fix that tomorrow. I wanted to submit my score before midnight.
4 points for graphic novel
2 for the author's three names
0 for the title
1 for white text on the cover
3 for 447 pages
2 for female author
2 for severe weather (the book is set in rural Iceland, there is always severe weather in rural Iceland!

Total 14 points!
I loved the book and am off to the library tomorrow for the sequel!

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19228 comments Ah awesome. Sorry, I don't know why it linked the Danish version. How incredibly undiplomatic of me!!
(Especially as I linked it as I ran out the door to host a lecture on Ukraine, Russia and the EU. European diplomacy should have been at the front of my mind!)

Haha, the Danish version was what came up when I searched for it, I had to change editions. Too bad as there is green on the Danish cover!
