Erased my alternate covers and told me to do a alternate editions?

So as I've updated my covers on my book series, I've added them here at goodreads and set the newest as the primary. Now a Librarian moderator has erased my newer covers and left me a message that I need to add a new edition. Only problem is the site won't let me add a new edition because the ASINs are already in use.

Seeing as how my series didn't start selling until this year, 99% of my readers will never have seen these old covers. So erasing the new ones makes ZERO sense.

If I'm missing something, by all means explain to me. I notice that other books have multiple covers for the same ASIN, e.g. Jurassic Park has four different covers, with one set as the primary. So why then can't I do that?

We have to keep all existing edition (or ARC) covers on the site, so the librarian was correct re: creating an alternate cover edition. You can do so by leaving out the ASIN for the new cover edition since it's already in use. See the Help topic about this here.
