T.S. Bradshaw (TSBradshaw) | 8 comments "The Goodees" is a fun, interactive, educational book for young learners that teaches beginning English, Spanish, French, and Mandarin words, as well as numbers. The book also reinforces math, reading, color recognition, matching, animal sounds, action words, and animal print recognition.

I wrote and illustrated the book for various reasons.

As an educator, I felt it was important to create a educational book for children that would engage all learners; the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learner. Not to forget the emotional learner, they too can be engaged. I also felt it was important to create a book that allowed children to participate in their learning through consistant dialogue with the reader and becoming physically involved in the reading.

As a parent, I felt it was important for the next generation to be exposed and encouraged to learn various languages. This will help prepare them for the future workforce that is now calling for bilingual employees and partners.

As a humanitarian, I felt it was important to create something that will hopefully bring children from various cultural backgrounds together through the use of language and communication.

All in the all, "The GOODEES" was created for children to HAVE FUN AND KEEP LEARNING. The Goodees T.S. Bradshaw

Jcwillis53 Brown (southerncomfortauthor) | 51 comments what a wonderful concept and reason for being an author! As a grandmother of a 3 yr old I appreciate the opportunities to be bi-lingual. My husband's oldest son is married to a lovely Japanese lady and both of their children are able to speak several languages. They were both born in Japan and are now living here in the States but are connected daily to a Japanese community.

I'm an educator also, and this is the type of book I'm always looking out for.

Jcwillis53 Brown (southerncomfortauthor) | 51 comments If I ask my local library to order a copy is it available to them?

message 5: by T.S. (new)

T.S. Bradshaw (TSBradshaw) | 8 comments Thank you Jcwillis53! I have a passion for education and children. It is truly a great opportunity for children to be exposed to other languages and cultures. Having had the opportunity to educate children in South Africa, children there spoke many different dialects within their native language, as well as English. I thought to myself what opportunities these children will have in the future.

It is so important to expose children your grandson's age to various languages and cultures. So, congrats to you and your family for appreciating the importance of having your young learner be bi-lingual and bi-cultural.

Thank you, Brooklyn. As an educator, I too was looking for this type of book and could not find it so I just created it. If you would like to purchase the book you can call 1-888-280-7715 or go to your local Barnes and Noble Bookstore to order the book.

T.S. Bradshaw (TSBradshaw) | 8 comments Hi Everyone,

There was an interesting article called "Unraveling how children become bilingual so easily" published by the Assoicated Press. A summary of the article is posted on the Goodees blog at www.thegoodees.wordpress.com. Feel free to visit and post your comments. I am interested in what your thought are regarding children and bilingual education.

T.S.

Minnie (minnieestelle) Hi, All. How are we going to do this? Send a gift book to a site or simply take a book into the library of our choice? I live 3 blocks from the Blackstone Library in Chicago.

But don't we want a name for our group, kind of like a charity with a mission statement to libraries? A web site? Let me know. I'm ready to mail but need advance notice.

Jcwillis53 Brown (southerncomfortauthor) | 51 comments I think a web site is a wonderful idea but belive me I am not the one who knows anything about building a website. and yes... a name would be wonderful!
I went to our local library today and checked on my book that they bought and it gave me such a thrill to see it checked out and due back on 8/8/09. It made me laugh/ smile/ pat myself on the back/ just plain felt good. I'll help but I'm not good with internet stuff. You deligate and I'll do my best to follow.

T.S. Bradshaw (TSBradshaw) | 8 comments That's great JCwillis 53, good for you!!! I too like the idea of creating a name for the library group as well as a website. However, maybe we should think about creating one specific discussion group that we can all go to in order to communicate more effectively oppose to communicating on various discussion groups about our ideas.

Minnie (minnieestelle) Oh, my, JC. I don't know how to go about this either. Let me think about it. We surely want libraries to know we are up for contributing books to help in these economic hard times, with the hope that it'll open doors for our future work.

I don't think libraries are looking to purchase books right now. And I was not thinking of asking them to purchase mine when I heard this idea.

We'll see, folks.

Brooklyn Darkchild (brooklyndarkchild) | 13 comments Simple and Direct without appearing Too Highly Organized is a better method I think. Organizations like the library tend to shy away from anything that looks like a Push for someone's work. A better, more low keyed approach would be to just hand the head librarian a list of books and say:
I saw these on the Internet and was wondering if you carried any of these?
If she says no then ask if s/he could possibly get them. Always leave a copy of the list, with all the pertinent info, with him/her.
Also:
Every Library has an acquisitions person. As an author you can have your publisher (yourself if you are self-pub) make a formal request to the library of your choice. The library will even email you their requirements for consideration. They ALWAYS have to make a certain amount of purchases a year.
Why not YOUR book?

Hey, Lyn Cote! Glad to see you here.

Guys I took a wonderful class with Lyn called The Conflict Grid, Tool for Success in May and it opened new doors to my story. Thanks again, Lyn.

Lyn (lyncote) I enjoyed the class too. A lively class. Glad it helped.
