Does anyone use Torrent?My husband wants to listen to The Catcher in the Rye. Oddly, Audible doesn't have it. A google search brought it up as an audiobook at Torrent but I guess I'm a little reluctant to get it unless I know more about it (e.g., I don't know what "seed back" means...)

Kimberly,BitTorrent is a way for people to "share" (ie. copy) files. Rather than copying the file from a central server, a BitTorrent client will get a file by copying parts of it from different BT users. "Seeding" means that as you get chunks of the file yourself, you also make them available for other BitTorrent users to copy from you.
Content obtained via BitTorrent is still subject to copyright laws. The majority of content available through BitTorrent has been copied without permission, so you need to be careful about what you download. You may be infringing copyright by downloading anything that is not in the public domain.
I would recommend looking for more legitimate alternatives for obtaining this audiobook.

Thanks HBJ. That's exactly what I wanted to know. I really appreciate your information.One of the reasons I'm such a huge Audible fan is that it's legit (and not a hassle).

I have been watching Audible and the library for the same book for a couple years. No luck so far.
It can also depend on the rights of the book. I believe there are a lot of books now that are public domain, and have free recordings. They are generally older books, and possibly Catcher in the Rye might fall into that category now. I've never used any of them so I can't comment on the titles or narration or audio quality.
Unfortunately, Catcher in the Rye is not in the public domain, so any free copies of it you see online are suspect at best, copyright wise.HBJ
