Beloved | 15 comments I just finished City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments, #2) by Cassandra Clare and I am a little hesitant to start the next book. I like the movie but I cant seem to get into the books. I keep giving it more shots because I hear how much people love it and I cant help but feel left out. I am hopping that one of these days I will be reading and actually get excited about it and not want to put it down.

I felt the same after reading City of Ashes. But when you'll read City of Glass, you'll be able to really get into the story.

message 56: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (flyingmonkey22) | 38 comments Same first two books I really could not get into I didn't like Jace or Clary. I couldn't understand why the hype then read city of glass recently and man that book is action packed and much better writing wise. So keep with it the books do get better I'm on city of lost souls atm and really enjoying it :)

Tiffany (dazed63720) | 10 comments I just started reading the infernal devices...loved the mortal instruments series. I am tempted however to put a hold on infernal devices just so I can read city of heavenly fire! What do you all think?

message 58: by Ria (new)

Ria Infernal Devices doesn't really play a big part in City of Heavenly Fire :P I read CoHF without finishing CWP1 and CWP2, I think the only thing you miss out is just little inside jokes/details here and there

message 59: by Emily (new)

Emily (extremefangirl20) | 5 comments I have read all Cassandra Clare's books they are absolutely amazing!

message 60: by Tonya (new)

Tonya Powell | 22 comments I've read all but the last one that came out. I've yet to go buy it. I saw it when I went to the store the other day and I almost bought it but I realized it probably wasnt a good idea to spend twenty bucks on a book right now. So I'm waiting for right now but soon I will be buying that book. Also, I think I may reread the series before reading the last one. Just relive the moments if you know what I mean lol

message 61: by Katie (new)

Katie Perrodin (katieperrodin) | 22 comments This is my favorite series overall right now, and although I used to always change with every new series, ever since I read this one I think this will become my permanent favorite. I love how it's not concentrated on Jace and Clary's romance, but managed to integrate it so it wasn't just like an extra thought the author decided to just stick in somewhere.
Not to make anyone not want to see it, but in my opinion the movie is wrong. I think the characters were chosen perfectly, but instead of doing it like Harry Potter or any other series and making each book a movie, it seemed to me like they just took chunks and pieces from all the books and stuck them together. It was an okay movie but as usual, if I have read the book first I usually hate the movie.

no Tiffany you have to read the infernal devices first. there's some mega revealments in COHF and it will be wicked to (i can't even say anythig without spoilers) read TMI 1-5 then TID 1-3 then COHF. its the right order....its more mystery.

message 63: by [deleted user] (new)

i have read them all and am the biggest fan...

i am 25% warlock
25% shadowhunter
25% vampire
25% lycanthrope (warewolf)

message 65: by Kelly (new)

Kelly This will probably only be applicable to a small group of people, but I'm going to throw it out there anyway. I was just at Half Price Books, and they were selling the boxed set of these (1-5) for $21.99. I live in Dallas, Texas, and I have no idea how HPB decides to sell certain new books, but if you live in a place with HPB and don't own the books yourself, might be worth giving them a call.

message 68: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 46 comments Ok, I didn't read any posts here because I don't want to chance any spoilers but I have been wanting to read the Clockwork Princess and was wondering if I needed to read the Mortal Instrument series first. So basically I guess my question is...What order should I read the books to make the most of the two series? Thanks.

message 69: by Elise (new)

Elise McClellan (malec_fan1498) | 1 comments It doesn't really matter, but it is a little easier with certain characters to understand them if you read the internal devices first.

Hi Rachel

I read the Mortal Instruments first. Its fine if you read them first but the correct order will be reading Infernal Devices first.

Both of them were extremely good. As each book passed it only got better and better.

Enjoy reading.

Yes!!! Do you know the release date for the series yet? I heard 2016 somewhere. I've read up on the entire cast, looks like the series is going to be great.

message 73: by Sarah (new)

Sarah I read through the first three books in about a month. Then I took a break and read some other things. Then I read the Infernal Devices. That took ages as I had a really hard time getting into Clockwork Angel. I spent over a month just on that one. Then I took another break to read other stuff. Now I'm back to these are moving steadily through City of Fallen Angels. I need to get the series finished because a friend wants to borrow them. I'm buying myself time to finish by giving said friend the Infernal Devices books to read first, lol.

I am cautiously optimistic about the tv series. We shall have to wait and see how well they do it.

message 76: by Linsey (new)

Linsey Would I like the Mortal instruments series if I mostly read contemporary and New Adult Romance books?

message 77: by S.R. (new)

S.R. Akulick (scyoni) Sarah wrote: "I am cautiously optimistic about the tv series."

So how did that work out? Personally, I find it bland. It's better than the movie - but I had to stop watching after about three episodes, it was putting me to sleep. (Might be because I'm not interested in the romantic sub-plots. YMMV, I guess!)

I love this series, though. I read it all for Magnus Bane, whose place as Best Character Clare Will Ever Write I will defend to the death.

message 78: by The Writer's (new)

The Writer's Shelf (thewritersshelf) | 14 comments I hope you guys don't mind a different opinion :) Her writing style is beautiful. She writes like an angel. Unfortunately, I found that the more she published, the more disappointed I grew in the content of her books. I felt like the first one was close to hitting some really high notes, but then it just dropped from there. Every book became more disappointing than the last. And then I read Clockwork Princess. It's been a while, so I don't remember which is last. But I remember trying to understand why an author would end a series like that.

Anyway, I hope I didn't step on anyone's toes.I love her writing style, but I'm not a fan of the content.

Sorry, just saw this.

Ultimately I found the series disappointing. For a TV series, it was ok. But considering any actual similarities to the book were purely by chance, as an "adaptation" I didn't like it.

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) Finally got started on this series. So far I am really enjoying it. The world of the Shadowhunters is amazing!

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) I finally got around to starting this series. I LOVED "The Infernal Devices" trilogy, and can't wait to read more about the Shadowhunters. So far, I've only read City of Bones, but it was a good start. :)

Sarah The print version of Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy just came out in the last few weeks.
My copy came the other day, I'm looking forward to reading it.

Born to Endless Night is my favorite one

message 84: by Michael (new)

Michael (michjarv98) | 10 comments I find the books to be something that really helped me become a more mature reader. Everything that is done the series is extremely political and every character introduced, even if said characters don't get much page time. At the core of the story, it's about all these creatures who have diffrent ideals and beliefs, yet they all have to learn how to coexist.

Season 2 is better than the 1st by lightyears!!

message 87: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 132 comments Five months after finishing CoHF, I Reread it. And I found my feels magnified by tenfold! I think I liked the last three books of TMI more than the previous three. Sebastian died too easily in CoG. But then in CoHF, when Clary stabbed him with that sword of heavenly fire and all the EVIL leeched out of him and he returned back to what HE TRULY WAS....I didn't want him to die.....

message 88: by Olivia (new)

Olivia I LOVE THESE BOOKS!! I immediately became obsessed and are now on the last book, but I don´t really want to finish it because then itś over... I was planning on reading the rest of Cassandra Clareś books but they haven´t been released in Swedish jet and even if I can read in English I found it much harder. This is a big struggle with many books I want to read and itś just so sad.

message 89: by Sarah (new)

Sarah How are people feeling about season 2?

Please tell me I'm not the only one who likes TV!Raphael more than Book!Raphael?
Also, I didn't care for Simon a whole lot in the books, but he is driving me crazy in the tv show.

This. Exactly. I actually got a little teary eyed in CoHF...

Johnathon Nicolaou (johnathonnicolaou) I love all of Cassandra Clare's books (so excited for Chain of Thorns this year!) Her writing inspired my first series (The Lost Artefacts).
