ABANDONED. Help finding artistic science ficion book from 80's or 90's

This book has very colorful, graphic and realistic looking fantasy artwork. Takes place on another planet. More images than story in the hardcover book. Involves a guy and a girl on another planet, both wear loin cloths.
My son read these when he was in high school, graduated in 92'. Purchased at a bookstore, not school library.
Any help appreciated. Thank you.
