You might want to change your thread title a bit - I don't think books like this (kind of like Michael Crichton or Preston and Child in style) are usually considered scifi. Thriller maybe, techno or biological or science.

I look at most threads but some people only check certain kinds.

I second Hunter. It starts off with Our Hero helping local authorities find a lost kid in the woods, and then he gets recruited to go after an unstoppable prehistoric killing machine some scientists have revived and let escape, as scientists are wont to do.

It fits the bill. It's old enough and it was good! As a matter of fact, it was my father's favorite too. He rarely talked about books he read once he was done but he did with that one and he had sparkles in his eyes. :)
