Right now, I'm in between 4 books (a paranormal chicklit novel, a historical paranormal romance, a young adult urban fantasy audiobook, and a western erotica e-book).
Interesting enough, I have no problem picking up where I stopped in a certain book, even if I read several at the same time.

I usually stick to only one book at a time, but I occasionally will read two. They have to be REALLY different though. In other words, maybe a fantasy and a romance...

I usually come back to the one's I've already started, but I usually have to forget how bad it was first. Sometimes though I'll come back to a book, and can't for the life of me figure out why I didn't like it in the first place!
A few times though, I won't be able to concentrate on a book, no matter how good/bad it is. If I push myself to keep going, there's a higher chance I won't like it. So in that case I usually abandon the book for a few days (sometimes weeks) before getting back to it. In the meantime I can usually find something else to read that fits how I'm feeling better.
I used to tell myself I couldn't read a new book until I finished the one I'd already started, but then it felt like I didn't have any choice, and for me, that's the fastest way to lose interest in reading altogether, so I got over it (thankfully) :)

I almost never read more than one book at a time, b/c I end up passing up one of the books and forget about it. LOL However, lately I have been reading several at once. I think it is b/c I haven't been in a reading mood lately, and it helps to switch it up when I feel like that...

Same here...must be something in the air. I usually never read more then one but lately I've been reading atleast two. I'm already on 7 books this month and I'm about to finish my 8th.

I also have something going on my Kindle, and the third is a book that I can carry around to places I'm not willing to take the Kindle.
