I was surprised by the negative comments about the film. I love the book and I think they did a great job capturing Gatsby's life. I love Baz Lurman's films (except maybe Australia) and it's exactly what I expected from him. Great storytelling like Romeo & Juliet and more theatrical, musical vibe of Moulin Rouge. And I loved the soundtrack too. The modern songs worked brilliantly.

I am about 3/5 of the way through this as an audiobook. I'm enjoying the narrator, Tim Robbins, but I have a feeling I wouldn't enjoy it as much if I were reading it on my own. Alas, I don't hate the story. It's just a little dry so far. I'm still going to finish it though. I will write more after.

I'm going to keep this spoiler free for now by the way =)
I thought that the storyline of the film was extremely close to the book which I wasn't expecting from what I'd heard about the film.
The casting was amazing! Leonardo di Caprio as Jay Gatsby was a brilliant choice and he was an outstanding Gatsby in my opinion - very true to the original character.
The cinematography was unique (it was directed by Bahs Lurman but I haven't seen any of his other work) and I think there wasn't really much I didn't like. Even the odd mixed soundtrack with modern music in it seemed to work well...
I'd love to know what other people thought of this adaptation =)
