Corrected course and I'm back on track! Yay!I think I was ambitious with my goal (didn't really have a previous tally on which to base it) but I'm going to do my best to make it anyway. I am aiming for at least 12 books in May
(Hangs Head) I know I said I wouldn't mess with the widget again, but I did. And I know I'm gonna be so mad at myself if I come up short.
New Goal=100 Books
Widget says 57 completed, 24% ahead
I like being ahead. So I'm not gonna mess with the widget again. (Rolls Eyes at Self)

Karen - I'm aiming at 12 books in May, too!
Renee - 100 books, yay!! It's such a beautifully round number, isn't it? Good luck!

Renee, we have the same goal! You are doing far better than I am though!
I'm 4 books behind schedule. I should really read some shorter ones this month. With A Clash of Kings and Dune, I'll have to read some rather short ones to make up my numbers. Yay for Shakespeare plays being short!

I am only 1 book behind.. but that is ok as I increased my goal to 160 ... :) So happy with progress till now :)
My widget was starting to look silly now that I'm listening to audiobooks. I just upped it to 100, which is more than I can actually read but maybe not if I'm listening too. I'd sort of like it if my "pages read" got to 25000, because that would be 100 books read if they were 250 pages apiece. (The audiobooks don't add to the page counts, other than just a few pages sometimes.)
Awesome, Holly!
My widget refuses to understand that being halfway through two books means that I am NOT one book behind. Humph.

My widget says 6 of 20 read 30% of the challenge = 1 book behind. I am 52% through my 7th book of the year, so I should get BACK to being on track in a few days. About a week ago I was on track, or how many days it was just before I started this current book.
Holly, it sounds to me like that just means you need to dedicate another day to reading - the best kind of 'punishment' there is!
After a reading binge this weekend (unplanned, possibly poorly timed but since it was a reflex action to counteract lots of stress including a knee that's not healing as it should, I have NO regrets!!!) I am now a shocking 9 books ahead.
I had to change my challenge. I was 2 books away from finishing and I will finish those books today. I upped it to 52 books for the year and might have to up it again. even with upping it to 52 I am 9 books ahead!
Finished book 7 (of 20 for challenge) and am currently "ON Track". Started my next book number 8 of my challenge it is yet another of the Charmed series The Gypsy Enchantment (book #7 in the unnumbered series of 41 books)I hope to stay on track but next month when I start reading Under the Dome in June I might fall behind some since it is over 1,000 pages.
So far, May has been a struggle from a reading standpoint. With only 3 read so far, I am going to need to read 11 in 15 days to meet my personal goal for May.
Rob, I'm struggling this month too! 3 down so far for me. Maybe you could organize a night or full day of reading to catch up? It's so difficult with work and life but something to consider.
I am 9 books ahead. I am planning on reading Under the Dome and A Game of Thrones starting in June. This is where I expect to start slipping.

LOL Only ahead by 39 now? You're making the rest of us look lazy here! :P

Iasa wrote: "Kassandra, I find there are a few simple reasons I'm able to read as much as I do..." Iasa - my boyfriend likes to nap in the day as well and I always use that time to get some reading in. It's for everyone's safety really, if I sleep during the day, I wake up like a grouchy bear coming out of hibernation!
I find that reading is a fantastic outlet/escape from everything as well and does the trick for stress relief much better than anything else I've tried! I'm glad that you have been able to turn your love of reading into something so productive and inspiring.
After reading 6 books in 7 days, I am back on track at +2. To meet my personal goal for May, I need to read 5 more in 10 days, which is very doable.

Lately life has not raised its ugly head or I would not be reading as much, but you can always read a youth book from 1001 Books before You Grow Up and that will up your numbers some. :) Anyways that's my secret or part of my goal -- I have 50 books that are part of the 120 that are children's must reads this year.
120 children's must-reads -- that is a nice list to work through. Maybe I should try that. (My 20-something daughter is reading Roald Dahl this weekend. If it works for her, it just might work for me!) I teach, so I read lots of chapter books for kids so I know what to recommend to them. It does raise my numbers, but that's cancelled out by report card times, and concert times, and conferences, and . . . well, lots of times when I can't read as much as I'd like. The most important thing is that there are some really wonderful books written for kids that are worthwhile.
Wow you guys are dwarfing my margin,I have read 21 out of 50 books. So thsts 1book ahead of schedual ,and I'm reading my 22nd now.
Sandy wrote: "Yay! After a string of "tried and abandoned" books, I finally finished one in May, so now I am only three (instead of four) behind. Oh, I do so envy those who are way ahead!"Sandy
Congrats on your completion. Hopefully you can get another one knocked out soon. Oh and try to avoid anymore of those "tried and abandoned". They are distractions.
I also envy those that are way ahead. I am currently "on track" but with my just beginning the 1000+ page Under the Dome if I'm not careful (and don't read a couple of shorter side-line books) I'll get way behind, even more than your 3 or 4 behind.
Goal: 100 booksRead to date: 58
Percentage completed: 58%
Current standing: 17 books ahead of schedule.
I don't think I challenged myself enough for this year so next year my goal is going to be 150 books!

I think I shall, it feels so good reading more books again. When I stop for a while it's as if my brain turns into slush haha!
Sandy, the book I'm reading (Under the Dome) is one of the "buddy reads" so hopefully some of the folks in that group can help encourage me during the rough patches. If it wasn't a buddy read I'm not sure if I would attempt it right now. I'm not feeling too adventurous. So far the book is mostly exciting. I haven't felt it drag yet, but I'm sure it might in some parts a book that long is bound to have a slow spot or two.According to my widget I am 9% though the dreaded 1,000+ pages. WooooooohhhWhhhoo!
Ruchi wrote: "16 books ahead!"Congrats! :)
I am greener than the Hulk right now. I'm just at "on track" in the early chapters of a long journey of a book.
