Compelling character development

To me, the difference between an OK narrative and a book that you grow to LOVE is usually the presentation of a truly complex and memorable central character -- or even better, several such personalities within one book. For me, Ruth Ozeki's book achieves that better than anything else I've read recently. I cannot recommend "A Tale for the Time Being" highly enough.

I agree with Jim. This was such a different book for me, I believed all the characters. It has been sneaking into my thoughts long after I finished reading it. I also highly recommend it. It is original and very well written and it takes you on a few adventures.
