What are some of the must-have character-traits in the protagonists in romance novels?? Something which the hero or the female lead should have??

建て掛け (infires) What do you mean? Objects/Things they should have?

建て掛け (infires) Oh right! Well I would say that sometimes the character is flirtatious. :D

I think.....well, according to me,

Must-haves in the male;

- He should be tall, if he's not tall, I don't like him.
- He should definitely be humorous, and easy-going
- Protectiveness towards the heroine and honesty is a must!

For the girl:

- She should be strong, bold and self-dependent
- She shouldn't be too perfect, like they show in so many books....the guy can be perfect, but I prefer the heroine with some faults like quirkiness, some attitude...

I totally agree with you, though I don't like the male to be too perfect

Erica (ericaevernight) I agree with Ruchi, but just to be clear this is what I really like, and am usually dissapointed if not present

Male should be
Tall (6 feet or over)
Deadly
Handsome
at some point he should have stubble
killer eyes (icy blue, forest green, light honey hazel not brown, unless described as choclate or warm)
really intelligent
possesive

Female should be
Petite
shorter than him
Smart
Brown eyes, or ect,( but he can't have icy blue and she can't have forest green, its too unlikely which mean unbelievable)
Cautious
At some time before him she needs to have had a bad experience, needs to know humility
NO, NO annoying best friend

Both female and male need to be FAITHFUL AND DEVOTED TO ONE ANOTHER.

You are so right.
I hate when the female has an annoying best friend, I'm totally with you in there.

Kritika | 363 comments The MCs must love, adore and respect each other. They should deeply care for each other and their words and actions should reflect so in the book.

While heroine should rely on the hero she should have self-respect and self-esteem and should not be a simpering miss or a ditzy bimbo!
I just can't abide them! I like to read about smart intellectual caring loyal heroines. While good-looks are preferable they are not mandatory unlike the above criteria.
I also hate overbearing heroes.
Trust between the MCs is also an important issue.
And I always prefer tall and handsome heroes!;P

M.J. Schiller (mjschiller) | 38 comments Interesting discussion! Makes me think. I'm with all you guys with tall--more to love! I like the guy to be a little vulnerable, like the girl kind of knocks him off-balance. (They're so cute that way!) ...hmm...romantic, but that kind of goes without saying. I like for both the MCs to fill a void, answer a need, in the other. Talk on!
