Is this book inspired by 'Sleeping With the Enemy' (Julia Roberts movie)?

I really think so...It makes me want to hate Sparks and edit my review of the book. I thought it was an original work.

I think it's too coincidental not to be. I saw a lot of parallels, I know exactly how you feel.

When I first read this I was like 'yo, hold up' and I told my mom about the plot and she was like ' that sounds like that creepy Julia Roberts movie where she drops her ring down the toilet like an idiot for her husband to see.'

So yeah, you're not the only one who noticed. My neighbor, Terri, saw it as well but she chose to ignore it.

I was a little disappointed for a while, and the fact that it may be inspired by SWTE still sits in the back of my mind. But I'm not angry about it. Original or not it was still a really good book, imo!

Although I have read many of Nicholas Sparks books and keep them on the reading shelves in my classroom, he really doesn't have many original ideas or arrangements in his novels. His writing serves a purpose and place, but he is not one of our greatest American writers. He gets people who might not read, reading something, so for that I appreciate him. Could he have more complexity and development...possibly, but it might be beyond his or his editor's or his readerships abilities or expectations. He is similar to Grisham and Albom--find a formula and stick with it.

That's the first thing I thought of when I started to read the book, "Sleeping With The Enemy". However, the book held my interested.
